A viable compromise would be for DEMs & GOP to extend present HC subsidies thru the mid terms. Both would like that. But it won't happen with DJT insisting on DEM capitulation. We are in for a game of political shicken. #shutdown

DEMs must not only hold the GOP's feet to the fire on health care subsidies but ensure that DJT doesn't block expenditures. What is missing is trust. Trump has exhausted any trust for Congress to come to a deal. #shutdown

Lots of news coverage of Israeli hostages return, none about Palestinians released. Most Palestinians are non-combatants - journalists, first responders, and nurses. There are clear signs of torture and malnutrition on many. Israel has become a Nazi state.

I've been studying Richard Osman's The Impossible Fortune - the latest installment of his popular Thursday Murder Club series. One the best examples of free indirect narrative I've read in a long time.

Simple message: told non violently with numbers. What if those blocking the entrance to an ICE facility had a support group - supplying food, water, porta johns, buses, and legal support. What if like minded politicians came out in support. Would it go viral?
Would our grandchildren thank us?

Numbers matter: If you laid down at the entrance to an ICE facility, how many Guardsman would it take to remove you? At least 2. So if 1000 people laid down blocking an ICE facility what would it take to clear the entrance? More troops than they have. What if it were 5000? 10,000? Simple message.

Obvious DJT is deploying the Nat'l Guard to provoke a response. Any active protest has and will escalate quickly justifying more troops and violent mistreatment of protesters. DJT dreams of Chicago 68. But a passive protest, as MLK showed, will expose DJT for the tyrant he is. But numbers matter.

My summer of new-to-me authors has yielded VC Schwab's Darker Side of Magic - excellent! Sadly, Emily Henry's Beach Read didn't click. But I'm trying to make up for it reading In A Dark Dark Wood. Still, being true to my go-to genre, I've got Robert Parker on speed read. #readingcommunity

We're long time members of the DFW PBS station KERA. When we moved to the Detroit area, we joined WTVS. We were about to cancel my KERA membership when PBS funding was cut. Keeping it. Now I'm wondering should we join more stations, say in smaller markets that are seriously impacted by the cuts.

Really not looking forward to schlepping my latest novel to 50 agents and not getting replies. Also, not interested in self publishing. Is there another way? #writingcommunity

While I'm editing my recent WIP (workplace thriller about corporate crime set in 2004 silicon valley), I'm starting a new adventure. This one will be a pantser (no outline or plot developed). Starting with two old retirees and a dog. We'll see where it goes. @allwritersonlineworkshop.com

One book at a time or several? Book club friends say they can only read serially. I'm a bibliopolygamist. Takes longer to finish any one book but sometimes you find weird kinships - Vonnegut and Haaisen; Hemingway and Leonard. Real reason: too many books; never enough time. #readingcommunity

Current reading: A Darker Shade of Magic - V.E.Schwab (print), Spies - Calder Walton (audiobook), and Dog On It: A Chet and Bernie Mystery #1 - Spencer Quinn (kindle). A fantasy, a nonfiction history of espionage, and a k-9 mystery from the POV of the dog. I don't think I will get these mixed up.

I joined a book club to broaden my reading. I habitually drift to spy and crime fiction. What was this month's book selection? - In Cold Blood. :-)

I have typed 'The End' to my WIP. Two more reads with alleritersonlineworkshop.com to collect draft edits then it's on to the big full manuscript edit before beta readers take out their bloody red pens.
And I'm already thinking of the next project. In fact, the protag is bugging the crap out of me.

I'm approaching the end of my WIP with both eagerness and dread. But there's that pesky chapter that dragged to re-write. Then there's a few time line conflicts to patch up. Finally, a top to bottom edit before I beg for beta readers. The end is never the end. #writingcommunity, #authors

Now a war on tourism? A projected drop of $90B this year! Foriegn tourists will just spent their money elsewhere helping those economies. Idiots.

Marco Rubio sends a harsh message to those considering a U.S. visit
Ideally, the secretary of state would make clear to the world that the United States is eager to welcome visitors. He’s doing the opposite.

My WIP, a workplace thriller, has a working title: The RIF. The impending layoff drives much of the plot but the actual firings occur before the climax. The RIF precipitates the climax and ultimate resolution. My writer's group recommends I rename the novel. Thoughts? #writingcommunity

Great feedback: "The parts you stumble reading aloud are the phrases you need to re-write. If you, the author, stumble over the words, your readers will to. Don't worry. The words and ideas are there just work to make the narrative flow." #writingcommunity
