(yelling into the void about politics) It seems like if public schools were pitched as a new idea today, they would get roundly dismissed as *Socialism* even by some folks on the left. But now that we have them, they're so popular that not even crazy far-right politicians dare to get rid of them.

This Simpsons gag is 30 years old and it still perfectly describes the Christian Right. They had a "hands off our children" rally in Seattle where they somehow reverse-engineered the existence of trans people into a threat to kids.

My hottest take is that everything is pretty much exactly as it seems.
