i would rather lose everything straight in that context, rather than the game enforcing me to go back to the same spot in a pretty uninteresting way to “erase” the debt of my failure

in any case, the difference between "time you enjoy wasting" and "time you spend in a carefully balanced state of just enough enjoyment to not do anything else" is something we could try to examine some more

the artist “owns” nothing to the “consumer” of the artwork, at most we allow or facilitate. friction is part of expression, and if the spectator refuses to engage with friction they effectively didn’t engage with the underlying work. now, whether or not that friction be justified is another topic

idk the name, but focusing on one important aspect of an artwork and building an analysis around it is a fairly common thing to do: this happens a lot in film analysis due to the sheer complexity of the medium
