A friend just shared some great advice for these times: “You can’t do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good you can do.”

Here’s a great list of newly-banned words that we should all be using proudly and publicly, every single day.
Words related to DEI, climate change, vaccines and a host of other topics are being scrubbed from government websites.

“How can we have intelligent or difficult conversations if we can’t even use the words, the most basic unit of meaning?” asks @jonfreadom.bsky.social

I’ve been asking my elders about what it was like to have measles. Before the MMR vaccine almost every kid got it. Their memories are vivid decades later: darkened rooms, house calls from doctors, searing pain, fear.

When I am daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief, I find that poetry helps. Today feels like a good day for Adrienne Rich. www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/51092/...

Whoever runs the William Shakespeare account is absolutely killing it
Then you perceive the body of our kingdom
How foul it is, what rank diseases grow,
And with what danger, near the heart of it.

Noting that the US is currently experiencing the worst flu epidemic in over a decade. Also noting that two of the people I love most in this world are immune suppressed.
On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down.
For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now

From perspective of historian of US civil society, what seems novel abt current moment isn't govt targeted attacks on certain nonprofits ("Defund the Left") or efforts to slash fed funding to NPs on fiscal grounds. It's presumption of suspicion toward NPs as class.

In honor of BlackHistoryMonth I'm creating a buy list of the quintessential African American Literature Canon.

These are the books that we would save from a burning library #booksky #blackbooksky

I'll make the list public when we get at least 50 responses.
