If you expect Mark Carney won't take pipeline blame whether it's built or not, I have bad news for you: opposition parties aren't going to be charitable in their framing and voters aren't always charitable, or consistent, themselves.

Carney will be seen as Captain Pipeline.

The NDP leadership candidates aren't particularly inspiring. But, the NDP might be poised for a big comeback anyway. In spite of whomever becomes leader. Many many progressive voters who voted for the Carney Liberals in April aren't likely to do so again.
NDP leadership race: dismal.

The party needs the skillset of a Mulcair/Layton. What's on offer:

- a narrow focus on "union halls" & "shop floors"
- govt price controls
- antipathy to business
- l'incapacité de parler français
- a lack of interest in productivity & research

CBC reports that coastal First Nations are rejecting the new Alberta–Ottawa pipeline deal, citing no consent, spill risks and threats to their way of life. Alberta support doesn’t replace real consultation.

Is investing in another pipeline really wise?

Carney has lost the progressives who elected him.
I am saddened to say that @mark-carney.bsky.social has betrayed Canadians by entering into a MOU with Albertan fascists to further exploit fossil fuel exports.

Carbon capture is a scam.

I voted Liberal the last election. I wont again. Carney is no better than the #cpc #cdnpoli

B.C.'s coastline is a national treasure. Enjoyed, appreciated by Canadians and people from around the world. Protecting it is a National Priority.
What year is this—really? A decade after the Trans Mountain Pipeline disaster and billions in taxpayer dollars wasted, we’re walking the same tired path again. Whatever environmental concessions the Prime Minister has gotten from Alberta is a farce risking BC’s precious coastline.

The irony is impossible to miss: Carney, the former UN Special Envoy on Climate Action, is now entertaining a pipeline expansion that runs directly counter to the urgent climate leadership he used to champion.

I like it. Yup, the precedent now has been set.
Today the precedent has been set. The NL government sould immediately propose an power line corridor across Quebec to connect Lower Churchill to markets in the US and expect a deal from the feds that excluded QC.

The pipeline stuff will get the most attention, but the bottom line of the Ottawa-Alberta MOU policy-wise is that Carney is scrapping or softening most Trudeau-era climate-related regulations in favour of putting (almost) all his eggs in the industrial carbon pricing basket.

Re: pipeline MOU between Alberta and Ottawa, B.C. Energy Minister Adrian Dix said yesterday having places like Alta and Sask discussing this without B.C. sort of like if David Eby, Wab Kinew and Doug Fort started making decisions about Alberta without Smith, and it likely wouldn’t go over well.

This scenario may well come to pass. Certainly far more likely than the Northern Gateway pipeline getting built. Tomorrow's "accord" could spark more discord than the unity Carney hopes.
What Smith is going to do is claim Carney promised to get the pipeline built and use it as ammunition for another Separatist referendum until Carney relents and agrees to her demands like Trudeau did when the Liberals bought TMX from Kinder Morgan.

This is a terrific, informed analysis by Charlie Angus. The puzzle of how "the smartest guy in the room" could do something so seemingly....dumb.
There is no political, economic or environmental case for even pretending to consider Northern Gateway pipeline.
Mark Carney has given a huge with to Danielle Smith while reviving the environmental conflicts of Stephen Harper.
This is a huge mistake.
My latest.

It really has been interesting the last while to see Doug Ford's outbursts. The true Ford. From "get a job" to "audit orgs that might support left wing causes". The authoritarian belligerent bully that had no staff to muzzle him in City Hall days is still there. Does Ontario see? Do they care?

There is a sense here of "why are they even doing this?"
Tell me there is more to this! One of my biggest complaints with Government is their lack of information sharing. I wrote to the PM's office today on this. I, for one, do not approve of this pipeline.

This is a good analysis. What Carney, Sabia + Hodgson are doing-with little apparent input from others-is saying Alberfa matters, B.C. + indigenous peoples are afterthought. Yes, Liberals will lose much much support in B.C. with not much pickup in Alberta.
The result of the current path could well be a project tied up for years with court battles and beset by protests, and a decline in Liberal fortunes in BC and no offsetting gains in Alberta.

Yup. It is like we're trapped.
Ford has raised voter suppression to an art.
Capture the major media outlets;
Stick to talking points;
Defund opposition parties;
Deregulate campaign donations;

Resulting in under 50% voter turnout. He wins a big majority with only 18% of total electorate 🤦🏻‍♀️

The police don't seem to be in much hurry to investigate the corruptions in Doug Ford's Ontario do they? I wonder why?
#Ontario where we know #DougFordIsCorrupt & wish the RCMP would share their findings- it’s been 2 years.
How’s that for transparency? He ran on transparency but it has been in short supply from the Ford government. Deals behind closed doors, refusal to reveal cost of finally canceling Starlink, etc. The list goes on.

Except only 42-44 % votes. So he keeps getting in. His only real opposition the Liberals are in disarray. Again. Ford can do what he wants. And, he is. It is ugly, despotic, short sighted, disastrous. But Ontarians only have themselves to blame. Ford been allowed to game the system.
Ford really seems to be on a new corruption wave recently. A whole clot of ugly events, and more abrasive than usual.

We can't get this guy out of power fast enough. Ontario has grown more depressing by the day under his lousy, corrupt aegis.
