One of the odder US fundamentalist tradwife takes I've come across: it is not contradictory to be a tradwife who works/has a social media presence because "historical female influencers" such as Florence Nightingale and Elizabeth Gaskell existed.

Was anyone else tortured by acrostic poetry at school?
Maud Parker Thomas (d. 1584) clearly liked them enough to have one inscribed in her memorial brass. Or maybe it was the choice of her son Michael (buried 1628) who allegedly lived to 110 years old - I have questions about this last fact!

So true - but the humanities provides so much more than preparation for the economy: it is a training for the whole of life, not just the job. Every well-functioning civil society needs a critically attuned citizenry.
What HE managers fail to understand is that in the context of the Humanities, ‘employability’ isn’t teaching coding or carpentry, but skills around writing, presenting, reasoning, evaluation, analysis, research etc. In an 80% service economy, these are the skills that fundamentally matter.

It's a good few years since I studied 19th century they Irish history, but I don't remember Fenians being quite so keen on taking down the Guinness family as the way to achieve independence from English rule... #houseofguinness #irishhistory
