I teach #Sociology and we got our statement from the assholes in power about the school needing to do some kind of DEI audit to make sure we aren't trying to achieve "nebulous goals such as diversity, racial balancing, social justice, or equity." Holy fucking hell. #woke #resist #eattherich

"This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal."

No Place for Self-Pity, No Room for Fear
In times of dread, artists must never choose to remain silent.

On 1/20s past I was: Putting together a Dropkick Murphys in Berlin trip, having a duct tape dress making party, heading down to DC to March, auditioning for the Vagina Monologues, and winning Academic Advisor of the Year. Not sure whether to thank or curse the internet memory machine.

Ok #booksky, let’s talk.

👎🏼Goodreads, owned by Amazon, fuels its monopoly on books.

👍🏼StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform, offers an ethical, ad-free alternative with mood-based recommendations, user control over data, and a focus on inclusivity. Support diversity over corporate power!

I didn’t care about Tik Tok before today. Now I would like to see it die a slow, painful death.

My honors students this semester need to choose to create a podcast, a blog, a movie, or some form of art that represents whatever sociological concept they want to explore. I am looking forward to seeing /listening to their finished projects! #sociology

Now is a good time to get those banned books into your personal library. I fear they’ll disappear.

Why in the hell can’t they manage pain for medical procedures involving the uterus? “You will feel a small cramp.” Fuck you. #smashthepatriarchy #womenshealth #transhealth

This definitely me this week--longer, really, but it gets tighter and scarier every day.

Practicing my story for The Moth this week 🎤 The theme is "reset" and I am going to talk about the time I walked on fire and what it meant (if I get called up on stage!). #themoth #storyteller

An article I wrote in 2016. Nothing that came out of the metaverse this week was a surprise.

I like the idea of a new year even if it is just another day on the calendar, but, I have to admit, this one is hard. I feel like we failed as a society by allowing T back in office and 2025 terrifies me. My words for the year will be fight, educate, and survive.

Writing is an act of rebellion.
Writing is an act of creation.
Writing is an act of salvation.
Writing is an act of exploration.
Writing is an act of emotion.
Writing is an act of confession.
Writing is an act of speculation.
Writing is an act of reflection.
Keep writing.

Submitting your name at The Moth is a cool roller coaster. They pull the 1st name, the 1st reader pulls the 2nd name, the 2nd pulls the 3rd and so on until they reach 10. You wait to tell the story you have practiced--but if you don't get called, you still get to hear other great stories!
