It’s difficult to express how much progress has been made. When I was a kid, AIDS was a death sentence. When I was a teenager doing peer sex ed for the local AIDS Project, we had antiretrovirals, which turned HIV into a chronic condition, but you still had to wait *six months* post exposure to test
Freddy Mercury died of AIDS 33 years ago today. With modern medical technology, he likely would have lived. Never forget how much progress against major infectious disease has been made in a short time. We are at risk now of rolling back much of that progress.

An insight I had a while back was that I am not part of the "we" for people who say "we" to reach across political disagreements. The person saying this doesn't see me as a party to the conversation, they see me as an object of unpleasant, unnecessary division.

I actually don't think that's it. I think certain privileged white people are angry that others of their ilk prefer spaces that include us than in spaces that have run us out. They see it as a betrayal that our voices would be valued by people who they feel ought to sensibly abandon us to our fate.

The thing that keeps getting me about all the pieces fretting about Bluesky being too insular is that the argument seems to be that those of us who are most likely to be abused by the right (BIPOC people, trans people, queer people, etc) must put up with being abused for the sake of public discourse

how surreal must it feel to have your right to survival be the subject of a utility calculation by people whose solidarity would cost them almost nothing

Yeah appealing to people’s selfishness is so fucking dehumanizing to the people actually at risk. “Nevermind the folks who are facing actual danger, let’s have a conversation about the folks who aren’t!”

Our TDoR vigil for the unidentifed and unnamed is done. I wanted to take a few minutes to post about some of the Trans people who were missing or unidentifed who have been identified in the past year, but who did not appear on the big TDoR list.

why does this matter? remember how segregated bathrooms were a memorable feature of jim crow america? it sets a precedent that trans people are second class citizens. they're also not planning to stop here.

we deserve to participate in society as fully as cis people.🧵

this is bigger than rep mcbride, who can’t or won’t fight for herself. we need folks to stand with us now. call scripts & info follow.🧵
