Hi, I'm Kat.

I take stuff apart. Sometimes, I put it back together...

I also collect obsolete television standards.

Currently not owned by a cat, so here's a 2005 pic of Frankie (RIP ~1985 - 2006) being a trip hazard.

Talk of station wagons has me thinking about one specific object of lust I bookmarked ages ago.

1977 LTD Country Squire.

I need this in my life. Same year, spec, colour, interior, etc. Exactly this. That interior. Wood on everything. They don't make 'em like they used to...
1977 Ford LTD Country Squire: Suburban luxury from the Wagonmaster - Hagerty Media
Jonny V. was a serious station wagon man, particularly when it came to Country Squires. So every time I see one, I can't help but think of him.

I knew there was something I'd forgotten to do. Got my order in just now :-)

I am, indeed, a computer nerd. And I am 'typed listings from magazines into my ZX81' years old.

Probably why I forget things...

Fungal Misadventure (a story in the form of a Bluesky thread)

"Have you ever wondered?" he asked, as they picked mushrooms in the forest near her house. "How many people died from fungal misadventure during prehistory before we found out which of these were safe to eat?"

Watching flights of interesting aircraft types, as one does. Anyone have any idea why this An-26 from Keflavik took a rather circuitous route to Liverpool..?

Avoiding built-up areas, weather, Wigan..?

Two words I have, not once, in over half a century existing on this planet, ever seen used together like this:

"Adversarial poetry".

What a time to be alive...
Okay, this is deeply intriguing: adversarial poetry prompts have a significantly higher rate of jailbreak success on nearly every model the researchers tried. Guardian article: www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
AI’s safety features can be circumvented with poetry, research finds

If, when this all inevitably implodes, there is talk of bailouts, we need to break some shit. They want us to let them erase our humanity and kill the planet. Time to take a lesson from the French.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

It's arrived..! It's in pretty good, near new condition, in the original box, with a bunch of accessories. Not bad.

There's no signs of life whatsoever so I'll try charging it fully before doing anything. And it is charging, or pretending to. Energy is going somewhere..!

Meh. Bulb in the Big Light in the living room went 'tink' then slightly dimmer and a bit flickery. 6500K 30W LED, installed 4th January 2022; it's done pretty well.

New one ordered. Of course I'll be taking the old one apart; no need to ask...

A few days ago I had no idea this was an actual thing which exists, then I saw John's post...

So I've just bought one. Of course it's non-functional; I do have a reputation to live up to.

If anyone wants to see what's inside without voiding their warranty, watch this space..!
Happy late birthday/early Xmas to me.

Got something with one of those integrated battery-backed CMOS RAM and real-time clock devices in it, but it has amnesia and doesn't know what the time is?

Here's one solution I used several times on a bunch of Sun and SGI computers ages ago...

Think I'll go back to bed.

Was pondering "what if I had yacht money?"

What would I *do* with a yacht..?

Could have far more fun with a refurbished old North Atlantic trawler, a couple of sizeable AC generators, a Continental 317C transmitter or two, some other bits...

"Radio Kayelem" does have a certain ring to it...

What happened to Monday? Where did all this dark come from? How did I end up ravenous and eating lunch just before midnight? Why is it Tuesday.!?

Ah. After swapping a GTX 780 for a GTX 1660 Ti OC in my main Linux box, I wondered if I could get something to work now.

Yeah. It works.

Anyone know where my not-X-Acto knife is?

Not on my bench. Not in the tool-case pocket where it lives when not on my bench. Not near my bench, where it could've fallen during a crapalanche. I've checked under/behind things. With a borescope.

It has very thoroughly vanished. I am baffled.

Leaf-water or bean-water?

Bean-water more wakey. Need more wakey.

Make bean-water. Yes.
