A few weeks ago we combed Field Museum study skins for lice. I was very excited to find this (likely) Haemodipsus species from an Indian hare (Lepus nigricollis) collected in 1954. Museum record: www.gbif.org/occurrence/6...
We will sequence the genome of this valuable specimen!

Do you work with equids, camelids, or aardvarks? We need lice from them for a research project. Please reach out if you might have access to those lice, I would love to tell you more about our project & collaboration guidelines!

Another thing I love about my job is getting to work with exhibits. Like this new display about the value of collections that was part of a diorama hall update and opening.

I feel like I have not been sufficiently aware of squirrels this Squirrel Awareness Month.
Here is a yellow pine chipmunk to give you a squirrel to be aware of.

When I got home from work I was informed that a baby alligator lizard had been in the house and its tail was accidentally pulled off trying to put it outside. Fortunately my husband knows to save it for me, probably didn't plan on me putting it in our freezer, but was also not surprised.
