You have hungry neighbors no matter where you live. There are a bunch of ways to participate. And most food banks offer boxes to volunteers — organizers understand that those of us who need these resources are often the most likely to pitch in.

I’ve hit my limit on #DisabilityJustice ‘advocates’ who have routinely invoked the #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs philosophy in the past thinking nothing of speaking over #ActuallyAutistic people — and not seeing anyone outside my community push back.

ANNOUNCEMENT: #Autism is not a tragedy. Therefore there’s no “blame” to assign. We can discuss what the administration is doing to pregnant people without reinforcing the harm inflicted by using their language. Disability advocates have long used the phrase “nothing about us without us.” And yet, I’m seeing stigmatizing language EVERYWHERE even from people who have used that phrase themselves. Why arent #ActuallyAutistic people getting asked to pen these op-eds? Why do people who would never speak for or over others groups think nothing of speaking “for” me? It’s even National Disability Employment Awareness Month. If you’ve been speaking over us, sharing articles and memes that do, or chuckling about Tylenol being a silly target (we’re the target; debunked science is just the weapon), consider supporting Autistic creators. Thanks to easy to hide discrimination in hiring practices, only 1/5 Autistic adults is employed and its legal to pay us sub-minimum wage. So, most of us have Venmo (KCKlabusich)/etc and substacks/Patreons. Learn, laugh, and enjoy our art while giving the admin the finger! Mine (plus wish lists for people who prefer sending an item to sending money) are all at linktr.ee/kattyautistic. I’m rolling out four new projects on my substack next month and am finally available for collaborations and contract work (easy does it as my medical recovery road is still long). Its daunting fighting ‘allies’ for space as my right to exist is (again) up for debate. I’m relying on community care to bridge the gap. Thank you so much to everyone who has kept me alive, kept my cats alive, and given me hope. You’re instrumental in keeping me going.

Mine is related: Reagan stealing the election from Carter. Appointing Justice Kennedy is one of those unnoticed at the time, hugely impactful moments from his presidency. Decisions and actions that STILL cause harm.
“How did this happen” moments routinely trace back to Reagan.

I moved to NY not quite a year ago (Finger Lakes area) and in with new support people a few weeks ago. Legitimate stability at home while chaos swirls outside is new for me.
Plus my cats are very happy and we get bonus new dog friends!

I know that sounds like hyperbole, but my underlying conditions are genetic and I’ve had symptoms my whole life. As a child I was punished for gastric dismotility complications and called lazy — enduring years of daily humiliating, painful treatment by my parents. Later, dozens of doctors shrugged me off telling me I was too young to be sick. This month, someone finally believed me. I get to have my first procedure — surgery with a 6-8 week painful recovery timeline — next month. I’m grateful and lucky to have housemates who are willing to be transportation and emotional support! But I also need to again call on my broader community for #MutualAid during this incredibly crucial and urgent time. With #Medicaid on the chopping block, this must be done NOW. My health is slipping and it’s unlikely I’d make it to a new administration that might or might not rebuild the insurance program that’s about to save my life.
