What's your favorite Earth critter that's so very weird and needs to inspire more aliens?

The bigger alien on the cover was inspired by deep sea crinoids and volcano snails! The little fuzzy one has a bit of squirrel/chipmunk and cat... And the other aliens in the book who didn't make it to the cover? Cuttlefish + giant millipedes!
