I thought of sharing something in solidarity, but no words came that didn't feel trite. This morning, 4 am—they appeared as haiku:
Golden Light Dances,
Weathered Wood Stands Tall in the
Shifting Stream—Quiet Strength
🌎
This is my prayer, words to offer the world on this day and too many like it.

On Monday morning I went for a nature walk, and ran down to the stream to capture the glorious dappled light on this weathered wood stump, rooted in spite of everything around it.

“The air pressure felt ominous the morning my husband died, like the entire universe was shrinking to accommodate the loss. But it had only been a thunderstorm, seasonal and expected.”
Read “The Obsolete Model,” my heartfelt speculative story featured in The Nonbinary Review, Issue 35, Old Friends.

Yesterday, I shared that at this point in my publishing journey I’ve racked up *hundreds* of rejections. Within a few hours I received an *acceptance* from 🥁 Zoetic Press!👏

“The Obsolete Model,” a heartfelt work of speculative fiction, will appear in NonBinary Review’s upcoming ‘Old Friends’ issue.

Thinking back to when I first read Stephen King’s “On Writing,” he spoke of all the rejection letters he hung from a nail on his wall to motivate himself. While today’s correspondence is electronic, the truth remains: rejection means you’re laboring to share your work with the world.

I love a good anthology, since it has the power to expose the reader to work they might never have considered choosing on their own.

Here are a few of my favorite poems from ‘The Best American Poetry 2023,’ with series editor David Lehman and guest edited by Elaine Equi.

My book club buddies are having a gift-wrapped book swap, so I used the October issue of Book Page magazine to wrap mine!

Fun fact: the cover feature for October is Alix E. Harrow’s Starling House, which also happens to be our December read 💜📚
