Cobb won 11 batting titles, more than any other player. He has more five-hit games (14) than any other player and has stolen home more times than any other player (54).

Many of his other records, including career hits, runs and career batting average lasted over 50 years.

On September 24 of that year, Cardinals outfielder Rogers Hornsby hit two home runs, one off each of the Barnes brothers.

In 1925, though, Virgil was victorious as he pitched nine innings, allowing nine hits, and the Giants won 8-4.

Jesse Barnes had been Virgil’s teammate on the Giants from 1919 until 1923, where Jesse pitched a no-hitter on May 7, 1922, with Cy Williams the only baserunner for the opposing Phillies.

Pittsburgh won the right to its "h" in 1911, 20 years after the US Board on Geographic Names declared "-burg" the standard and proper ending, as opposed to -burgh, -berg, etc.

Residents argued that "-burgh" was properly derived from the Scottish tradition (e.g. Edinburgh) rather than the German.
