Personal news? I got to speak with Susan Orlean while she was in Seattle last week. I'm so grateful that this journalistic icon took time out of her busy schedule for @kuow.org. We talked about her new memoir, storytelling and how she got her start in Portland! Listen and read 👇

Day 4 of counting and fairly notable jump for Katie Wilson today. Now only less than 2 points separate her and Harrell. He's at 50.74% and she's at 48.86%. #waelex

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell has a 7-percentage-point lead (53.3% to 46.2%) over progressive challenger Katie Wilson.

But there is a very good chance he will end up losing.

From @kuow.org's analysis: "Here in Washington state, mailed ballots come in daily batches. The count historically inches left with each new afternoon drop, as younger, more liberal voters tend to cast ballots later than their elders."
Start biting those nails: No clear winner in Seattle mayor’s race – yet
Incumbent Mayor Bruce Harrell secured about 53% of the vote in Seattle on election night. That doesn’t mean Harrell is safe.

Bruce Harrell leads Katie Wilson 53% to 46% in the first ballot count tonight. It's not unusual for the more progressive candidate to trail in the first drop and that gap will certainly narrow in later counts. Especially since so many people seem to have voted at the last second this election.

Early results in Seattle have more progressive candidates with significant leads in the city attorney and council races but not the mayoral race. Bruce Harrell is ahead of Katie Wilson by about 7 points. Curious about the folks who voted for Bruce Harrell but against Sara Nelson, etc.

Friends, you have three hours to get those ballots to a ballot box. Make it so.
Less than 20% of registered voters across WA had returned their ballots as of 5 p.m. Monday. That puts the state on track for record low turnout. Data shows returns lagging even in places with high-profile contests for offices like county executive and mayor. Voters can return ballots until 8 p.m.
