Honestly "Don't Engage, Just Block" has transformed my social media experience so profoundly that it's hard for me to describe. It's just so much better to be online now.
i also liked the fact that most of us who had come from the other site had the mentality of not giving "bad actors" the benefit of the doubt on here , and told all to block, not mute, an move on

For 15 years, I've been the conference coordinator for SiWC, a large, well-respected professional development conference for writers I've been part of as an attendee or staff since 2001. To this day, my mother-in-law invariably refers to it as my "book club thing." Every. Single. Time.

Device…hoarding. Because you don’t go get a new one while yours is still fine.

Apparently I am also practicing car hoarding, house hoarding, husband hoarding, dog hoarding, computer hoarding, furniture hoarding and art hoarding.
stupid young people, stop buying a new phone every year if you don't want to be broke. wait no, not like that.

For Americans who wonder how much we see about US stuff on our news, I’m watching The National, CBC’s newscast. After a top story about the devastating grizzly attack in BC, the next two stories were Mamdani’s White House visit & MTG’s resignation. Then stories on trade war and Ukraine & Trump.

How did I somehow miss that @ambaile.org.uk is on Bsky? If you share my interests in Scottish history and photography, you should follow them, too.

It is genuinely incredible to me how much evidence there is to support investing in the public good and how much animus there is to do this simple, effective thing.

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

A couple weeks ago a friend was telling me about someone she knew who had been on maternity leave, and said she had taken "the full year." I said, "A whole year? Wow, what kind of fancy job does she have that gives her a YEAR of leave?" and my friend looked surprised & said, "... welcome to Canada?"

I talk to the press professionally, I'm really, really, really good at it.

So please, please believe me when say you cannot turn this interview request into anything good, it will do only harm. Harm to you, harm to your child, harm to other children.
heads up to anyone who holds trans kids near: amy harmon from the nyt is searching for and having a hard time finding people to interview to find out exactly what trans kids are doing when their care is limited or cut off, and for purposes of community safety, please shut the fuck up around her.

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

Honestly, so tired of people sharing anti-budget stories and getting all fucking bunged up on speculation.

Surely we can wait until the fucking budget is fucking released, and then fucking get angry about what's actually IN IT, rather than GUESSING?

Are you not fucking EXHAUSTED? Just STOP. Jesus.

The Surrey International Writers Conference has been my favorite conference for over a decade. This year, it's not happening, because the hotel is in a labor disputed.

SiWC had already purchased plane tickets, etc, for all the presenters. Can you help ensure its future?

Hey friends, SiWC is a labour of love for me and all our staff, board, and volunteers. Please boost our fundraiser to help ensure we're able to continue for years to come. Cancelling this year because of a strike at our hotel was expensive!

SiWC has been the beating heart of my local writing community for over thirty years—please consider donating to keep this not for profit conference going after a financially brutal year.

SIWC invited me last year, paid me fairly for my workshops, and covered my hotel and flights; it was a fantastic conference and it's focused on classes, panels, pitches, and professional development. It's a very useful resource for Canadian writers and I hope it continues!
