Our policy on preprints is that you should post a preprint before the manuscript is submitted or sent out for review. It is because a lot of time and effort goes into the review process (before acceptance) and editing (after acceptance).

Oof. That makes me feel better about my journal. We’re currently assigning manuscripts to issues about 7 months out (we publish 6 issues/year), but I try to publish papers well in advance of that. It’s hard when you have a wave of papers and an office of basically 1.5.
