The Hound and I are living our best Sunday evening life, sprawling on the sofa, snoozing and generally being lazy.
Loving the glorious pedestrianism of my days at the moment.

First time this silly pup has seen sheep 🥰

This week I have been surviving my night shifts on a regime consisting of Nutella on cheap white and 6 cups of black coffee daily.
Genuinely baffles me how I used to be able to brunch, run and wash the dishes in between nights in the past 😂

I started a Polar Book Club (PBC)!
Our first book (starting Feb 1st) will be Frank Worsley's 'Shackleton's Boat Journey'.

Discussion will probably be on Discord but I'll sort that out nearer the time! 🥳📚🇦🇶

Books of 2025:#1: Grief is the thing with Feathers, Max Porter.
Read after enjoying Lammy so much last year. Strange & lovely.
Read on a train, pages still damp from the New Years bothy flood despite a week atop my radiator. The misshapen pages suit the tale.

I feel really lucky to have had the opportunities I have. You can listen to me talking about some of them (and saying ‘Um’ a lot…apologies…!) here.
The final Coffee and a Gas podcast episode of 2024 is out now 🎉

Listen to our special Christmas edition where Dr Kat Ganly shares her experience working as a doctor on a remote and isolated Antarctic island for 18 months 🐧

I left my ‘books of 2024’ thread over on the other place. This years reading was largely consumed by medical revision….i couldn’t wait to open this one post-exam. Read in a night, finished at 2am. Not one for when you are feeling fragile. Beautiful, lonely, icy, and full of my beautiful birds.

Every year, I am somehow surprised at how little daylight there is the week of the Solstice, despite being notionally aware of the fact that the Scottish central belt is north of VANCOUVER

Word of the day is a favourite, from old Scots.

To ‘tartle’ is to hesitate while introducing someone because you have completely forgotten their name.
