😭1 badly timed bicycle accident and I’m out of the running to submit an ERC CoG grant this year, forcing me to wait almost a whole year to propose my idea. Why can’t the @erc.europa.eu emulate funders like the DFG and NIH and have rolling submissions for grants?

One alternative plant transformation tek I am so excited to try is the carbide whisker method. It uses thin silicon carbide fibers (nano-needles) to poke the crap out of plant tissue. Just adsorb DNA onto whiskers, add plant bits, and vortex for 1min. Obvs do not breathe in dust; respirator a MUST.

I am beyond thrilled (like the screaming and jumping type of thrilled) that my SNSF Starting Grant was funded. I will start my own lab @unibe.ch next year, studying succulent anatomy development and if and how this anatomy is required for efficient CAM photosynthesis in different Kalanchoë species 🌱
