Cataloging librarian. Institutional present and past: NYPL CUNY IU Drew New School NYU. Born and bred Jersey girl living in Queens (the Jersey-est borough).
This is infuriating. I don't recognize this IU. I'm so glad I left when I did. This is bullshit. A STUDENT complained to a *senator* about a *graduate* class in SOCIAL WORK called "Diversity, Human Rights and Social Justice." No way this was a real student. A ringer, for sure. Jesus.

A student complained to U.S. Sen. Jim Banks' office, and he contacted the IU administration, according to lecturer Jessica Adams.

When was the last time we could go to bed pleased and relieved on Election night? Hallelujah! This feeling is genuinely astonishing.

This is one of the greatest, most profound, historically significant speeches ever made in American politics.

Not really a late night movie. Just need something to start and maybe doze. I'm currently obsessed with Vivien Leigh. And I've seen this several times before.

A Streetcar Named Desire. Kazan. 1951.

Didn't realize this is a bit of a niche podcast. History of academia stuff. Terribly interesting. They could have come up with a pithier title. Not at all right-wing. This ep features a conversation with a professor targeted by Turning Point.

This went up this morning, I think. 😲

In November, I’ll be in London when Radiohead will be playing the O2 arena, so I registered to get tickets (fingers crossed). This morning, during my commute, I listened to OK Computer for the first time in a long time. At least 10 years, for sure. (1/5)

We've seen what collaboration with Trump has brought us: money stolen from city accounts, cuts to essential services, New Yorkers as young as six deported. Cuomo offers more of the same.

I am prepared to fight back.

How are we supposed to live in a world like this? One day, the government is proudly celebrating war crimes. The next, it seems it was all a joke? A trick to make us even more afraid than we already are? What is happening? It is a living nightmare.
I think it's important to note that Venezuela is saying this didn't happen.

They've recovered no debris, and they contend the video appears to be a deep fake. Yet crucially, the US media is mostly avoiding reporting this, or examining the video.

"Protecting these workers isn’t just about labor justice, it’s about preserving the infrastructure of informed citizenship itself. The question isn’t whether libraries will survive digital capitalism’s transformation, but whether they can become sites of resistance to it."

The NYT covers some of the problems with library ebook pricing. What they fail to mention is that authors are not seeing profit from library ebook licensing--as LF ED @littlewow.online notes, those go to the publisher and the platform. /1

I think it's now available to those who have Amazon Prime.
I nearly jumped out of my armchair for a solo standing ovation. I cannot recall the last time I had certain expectations and desires for a film -- and then, when I finally saw it, it met or exceeded every one.

I am so deeply moved. No adaptation of Homer that preserved the setting has come close.

Ok. Other than Wilford Brimley and Al Molinaro. Is there a LIVING PERSON whose face is well-known that is hangdog?
Other than Walter Matthau, who could be said to have a "hangdog face?"

Right?? There is no one else!
