Thoughts on clever climate policy.
Looking into optimal use of carbon, energy and money in the green transition.
Speaking of not being given other options… use of hydrogen for carbon based fuels (e.g. aviation fuel) is a poor use of ressources.
Just store the carbon needed for synthesis instead.

E-fuels or storage – how to make the most of clean electricity and captured CO2
Clean electricity and captured CO2 have multiple uses. Regulation should aim for prioritizing these resources for applications with the highest climate benefit

Thanks for sharing the numbers!
Did you make a table? It seems relevant to try to construct a carbon storage supply curve. If the value of additional storage is 100-300 €/ton CO2, then I would suspect you could find significant additional room underground.

Has anyone looked into using CaO instead? Same result but only 30 % of the mass.
Calcination with CCS would need to be done on land.

Thanks for sharing! Have you made any assessments of how the overall ESR target compliance is coming along? www.transportenvironment.org/uploads/file...

If its “long-term” you could bring down temperatures again using negative emissions. Question is who is going to pay.

Thanks! Flaring is bad, but also a much smaller problem than energy use.

And higher EU ETS prices.
Do you have the numbers for energy use emissions?

What about round trip efficiency? I’ve heard they’re unfortunately only getting about 50 %.

Do you have a graph showing fuel costs in USD/litre?

Yes. When assuming that the upgrading plant is paid for and in operation already it’s fairly cheap to transport and store the CO2 removed in upgrading.
