9. Despite the pleas of centrist consultants urging Dems to abandon trans people, it was those who targeted them who saw electoral fortunes collapse. For the first time in years, trans Americans can breathe and see evidence that the wave of anti-trans panic aimed at them may finally be receding.

7. In the biggest news, New York City elected Zohran Mamdani as mayor—a rebuke to his opponents’ anti-trans rhetoric and a victory built on an unapologetically pro-trans platform. Just weeks ago, Mamdani released a two-minute pro-trans ad set to transgender artist SOPHIE’s “It’s OK to Cry."

3. The first major call of the night came in Virginia, where Democrat Abigail Spanberger quickly secured victory. By 11 p.m. Tuesday, she led Republican opponent Winsome Earle-Sears by 13 points, after Earle-Sears backers spent 57% of their ad money on anti-trans ads.

57% of all ad spending by Republicans in the Virginia governors race was on anti trans ads. Just an incredibly mismanaged campaign. Anti-trans politics are a losing issue.

The article frames Skrmetti as a poor strategic gamble by activists. In reality, Tennessee passed a categorical ban applicable solely to transgender adolescents which was framed in sex-based terms. The choices were (a) challenge it or (b) concede defeat in advance and abandon trans teens nationwide.
The NYT decided to kick trans people in the teeth the day after Skrmetti. They wrote a hit piece blaming trans people for their own oppression and attacked the people who have fought hardest to stop this effort to eradicate us.

They turned to Brianna Wu to further their narrative.

this speaks a bit to my argument about leaving twitter. it's not about ideological purity, it is about the fact that it's been turned into a political weapon for people who wish to use it to harm others. it's not the marketplace of ideas - you do not have to participate in this project! very simple!
It is genuinely unsafe for average people to use Twitter and speak freely. It appears to be this administration's primary intelligence gathering operation.
this is genuinely insane. we’re going to need to jail people involved with this administration

The fact that a Trump voter wants me to know that they did not vote for mass deportations is not interesting to me. What is interesting to me is what they plan to do about mass deportations, and I hope the answer isn't "I plan to ask you to assure me that I'm a good person."
