Most autistic people I meet *like* being autistic. It’s core to who they are & comes with many strengths

What’s hard is surviving in a society that rarely accommodates, respects or tries to understand us

There’s a BIG difference between being autistic & being unsupported

Let’s not confuse the two

Yes, disabled people deserve nice things too.

They deserve to have whatever social life possible for them.
They deserve to have holidays if able.
They deserve to have support, entertainment, and hobbies.

All of these can be fundamental to a good quality of life.

The Trump administration’s approach to autism is tangled up with ableism, eugenics, and pronatalism
“The current political establishment and their supporters have consistently pathologized difference,” particularly when it comes to autism, a professor of medicine writes.

I’m autistic. Not because of Tylenol.
Not because of vaccines.
Not because of some headline.
I’m autistic because that’s how
my brain works. Stop treating us
like a problem. Start listening to us.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

To every autistic person feeling burnt out right now…

You don’t have to “earn” rest

You don’t need a reason to take care of yourself

It’s ok to have boundaries and to stop pushing yourself so hard

Your mind and body will thank you for it ❤️

Seeing Autism as Difference, Not Deficit
Small talk or straight talk? Autism communication has its own logic—and embracing difference opens the door to empathy. Understanding this can transform empathy and connection.

It's crucial to understand that what's bad about income inequality is not just that it enables elites to consume more; it enables them to *control production*. They decide how to use *our* labour and *our* resources, and shape *our* future. It is a dictatorship of the rich.

We shouldn’t be looking at what causes autism

We should be looking at:

- how society can STOP STIGMATISING AUTISM
- support and services that work for everyone
- how to improve autistic people’s quality of life
- reducing suicide rates (9x higher for autistic people)

This suicide awareness month I’d like something to be clear: self-identification of Autism reduces suicide risk and increases efficacy of psychotherapy. Individuals must behave responsibly for optimal wellness, but invalidation of self-identification only serves to further oppress and harm us.

Remember: The recipe for economic growth isn’t tax cuts for the rich. It’s investment in our people — in health care, infrastructure and education — to build a strong middle class.

You don't grow the economy through trickle-down nonsense.

THINK AGAIN

You're gonna get disabled eventually, as age or accident comes for us all! If you can't give a fuck for folks now, whose gonna give a fuck about you later?

How to take your disabled friend out:
1. Think of something fun but accessible (you can ask your friend what that means to them).
2. Block your calendar before/after so you can help them with any unpredictabilities.
3. Meet them at their home and help them get to/from.
4. Be patient. Slow down.

Waking up every morning and not knowing if your body is going to function, or how, is definitely one of the hardest and most debilitating aspects of being disabled.

Any plans, no matter how much you want/need to do them, can be stopped at any moment, totally out of your control.
