I was one of the very first subscribers to Canadaland and I'm proud to still be, for many many reasons. I thought this was an amazing conversation (despite the yelling, it was ultimately respectful) and is the kind of real shit that made me fall in love with the show so many years ago.

Subscibe!
Today we launched a new series – Off The Record.

Episode one is about a segment we killed, and why we killed it.

Excellent piece by @marshamcleod.bsky.social on this entirely avoidable tragedy and the pathetic joke of a system we have for any "police accountability".

(I'm very grateful to have a daily like the @winnipegfreepress.com still doing actual journalism!)

Police bullets and subsequent IIU investigation leave trail of troubling questions in wake of teen’s death in Portage la Prairie
After two years, Tara and Kaylan still cannot comprehend how their mild-mannered homebody son, who didn’t cause them any problems or get into trouble at school, who’d never interacted with the police ...

Wow, not even a token nod to the need to balance a competing intetest in maintaing free expression of ideas without government interference, nor any consideration of the danger inherent in giving governments the ability to ban speech they deem to be disinformation.

"The U of M is given $13,362 per student, Brandon University receives $12,354, while U of Winnipeg gets $7,260."

The @mbndpcaucus.bsky.social should be ashamed of its continuing neglect of such a central institution to Winnipeg. There is no excuse.

I dress like that and sing this exaxt song with others now and then.

This explains a lot, though. I didn't realize it, but it must be so attractive that it makes it too intimidating for many women to even speak to me.
men what’s stopping you from dressing like this and singing a cappella shanties with each other?

I rent a lot of cars for work and noticed in 2022 that I was getting offered Teslas at DEEP discounts from Hertz. Like, save half my money if I get one of these instead of a Jeep Compass.
Tesla's stock is ridiculously overvalued, and even a modest consumer boycott could tank the company, which accounts for the majority of Elon Musk's wealth.

From Sirota on twitter: "The subtext of this entire interview is that Bernie Sanders’ political analysis was correct and that the liberals who destroyed his political movement destroyed whatever remained of the Democratic Party’s ability to connect with the working class."
I wrote THE UPRISING in ‘08 arguing that if Obama refused to deliver populist policy, it would birth rightwing populism.

I made the same case in MELTDOWN at the start of Biden’s term.

This Bannon Q&A proves that unfortunately I was right. He explains it in explicit terms.

Canada's response to #tariffs should be a shift to massively increase trade with China (and Mexico), and use government policy to speed that transition and subsidize the required infrastructure.

As a lawyer, this is definitely one of the things that drives me the most nuts about reporting on court cases. Like tell me the goddamn case name at least! Most appeal decisions are published on that courts website. Not hard to link.
Like the other day I saw wire stories about a "Texas judge" ruling against Biden. Had to reverse-engineer it to 1) confirm that the judge was Kacsmaryk (very relevant) and 2) find the decision.

Put that shit in the piece, you're not a pre-Gutenberg priest explaining the word of God.
