We originally decided to see how far we could get in a weekend (of course, it ended up taking far, far longer in the end) so I settled on a quite simple artstyle with an easy workflow and very minimal animation. Animation was done with a combination of rigging in Godot and spritesheets.

The concept of this game came from our love of the series the Great, combined with these fancy portraits I made of our kitties at some point. Add in lots of cat puns, and Cat the Great was born! I did all art, animation, and gamedesign, while Bjorn did all the programming and dialogue.

The Artist - Cor Blok's illustrations were on the front of the first Dutch LotR paperbacks from 1965. They were the first LotR edition I read, as my mom owned them, and seeing this art always fills me with nostalgia.

A while back I was really stuck with my art, so I did a bunch of DnD character requests over on Reddit. I barely do character art any more nowadays, so they were a nice refresher! Although the backgrounds did start to creep back in, trying to take over :)

Happy two years #TolkienTrewsday!

Trees - Treebeard is one of my favourite characters. I really appreciate how Tolkien gave voices and personality to the trees, giving them agency. There are many times I've wished our RL trees could speak up and defend themselves.

No trees today, but just some cute little houses! I used to draw these kind of stacking houses all the time while traveling by train, trying to add on different houses that I went past.

Still trying to catch up on posting old art here. This is another Fangorn I drew a couple of years ago. I wasn't too happy with it back then, but it's grown on me a bit since. This was when I was in my homemade custom brushes for everything phase.

I used to be quite bad about alskdjflk.png and doesn't name layers, but working in a bigger team in a studio made me obsessively start to name everything. It's such a pain in the ass to work on someone else's stuff and having to search through all files/layers.
Bad habit artist bingo. One million WIPs, Comes up with ideas does nothing, Forgot to sleep/eat/etc, The urge to draw in the most inconvenient times, hunched over desk like a gremlin, too hard on self, free space, saves 100 tutorials uses none, where's my pen/stylus?, 100 empty sketchbooks, Forgot to sign/watermark pie, Gets distracted in the middle of drawing with another idea are all marked off
