I was very happy to have a story in Asimov’s in 2023. But I too will not be submitting to any MRM-owned pub again unless the boilerplate contract is revised.

I feel bad for the editors, who are not responsible for this mess. Such a shame that MRM has effectively destroyed three classic markets.
I heard about MRM’s terrible contract and I have heard that individuals have negotiated a more reasonable contract. But MRM didn’t change their boilerplate.

SFF writers can’t unionize, but I won’t send stories to them until their contract is fair for every writer. Solidarity is solidarity.
Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

It’s infuriating to me that I need to evaluate media to determine whether it’s AI generated now. The great “time saver” technology wastes incalculable time and energy for people who want to retain their grasp on reality

this is lovely. and a little sad. but lovely.
Anyway is this the story I had published this year that made the most people claim to have leaked their precious vital essences out of their eyes? MAYBE. Am I thinking about the end of the world a lot? (A lot a lot a lot?) YES.

This story is me trying to come to terms with feeling 'useless' (I mean, not in the face of apocalypse, just in the face of... everything, life, whatever) and realizing that no one is useless. We might not be fighting, we might not be defending, but we DO have a role to play in the world, always.💖

1. Some good news at last. This week’s column is about the amazing thing a couple of us stumbled into three years ago, which we’ve now developed into a global research programme. It doesn’t change everything, of course, but it could help change quite a lot. + 🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

i feel seen. also, i feel like this is (at least) often an #autistic personality trait. MUST RESEARCH ALL THE THINGS
there's a certain personality that's very debilitating in modern life. 100 years ago, if you wanted to buy something, you'd go to five local shops and decide. now with the internet, you need to spend 1,000 hours so you can own the best version in the world like you're some venetian patrician

Egg producers suspect bird flu is traveling through the air.

After a disastrous Midwestern outbreak early this year, we tested that theory and found that where the wind blew, the virus followed.

Vaccines could help, but the USDA hasn’t approved them.

It’s that time of year again.
This year my charity sketch sale is exclusive to BlueSky. I’ve got a smaller following here than on other social media channels, so I hope this works out! More details in the alt text.
I’ll be posting the first sketch this evening at 9pm (GMT). See you there?

Friends, this is a low hanging boycott action.

Similar to Hulu and Disney+ actions.

You can help turn the tide and it will make other platforms think twice.

The working class has much more power than they think.

It's a censorship engine designed to promote ideas that Elon Musk likes and suppress ideas that Elon Musk does not like. I really don't get why this evident fact - that Musk openly admits! - is so hard for so many people to understand
An X user asks Elon Musk why they’re seeing tweets from left-wing lawmakers.

Musk: “Because we are failing very badly with the recommendations algorithm. Doing my best to address this.”

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
