In all seriousness, I was literally wondering earlier this week how things were going on this. The first two parts were so much fun to read, and I know how much you enjoyed writing them, so I've been looking forward to the next chapter!

Because apparently I only have enough spare brain cells these days to communicate through gifs:

Meanwhile every single free pull I've gotten on both her and on Flash has been a one-star trainee. On pace to go the entire free pull duration and not even get a two-star, let alone Flash herself. 😢

I admit in my head it's always "Pyeh"

If you're not in the delivery room soaking towers on a Steam deck, are you even a real raider?

Anyway, if you actually read all of that, congratulations, that's the end of my ramble.

I don't really have any neat or pithy conclusion remarks, so, uh... give your OCs a hug for me, I guess.

Certainly I'm disappointed with how it turned out, but I hope that, having identified that clean break, it will eventually let me focus more on Kara's 6.0-to-7.0 story, and worry less about what she's doing in the game's "present."

Will there ever be another—potentially a new—OC whose story *does* fit into the post-Rite global narrative? Maybe. That's impossible to tell. I don't think that's something I could determine until I can look back at 7.0 through that essential lens of hindsight, which might be years away.

I just don't think the direction of the game's overall narrative beyond that point makes sense as part of her tale, and trying to force her into that would do more harm, both to her story and to my investment in it, than good.

This doesn't mean I'm done making Kara content. I still hope that one day I'll get the spark back to continue telling Kara's story (specifically her trials from 6.0 to 6.x) to its eventual conclusion in the first half of 7.0. That's still something that's out there.

Kara's and Riol's story is ultimately just not one that's compatible with the game's broader "crisis of the month" story direction. It's not about the same themes, the same lessons, the same kinds of experiences.

And so that's the time for their story, as a narrative being told, to end.

The end of the Rite of Succession is the correct narrative moment for her to fade off-screen with Riol at her side, beginning their life together of traveling the world, exploring its wonders, and learning what it means to live and to love.

As saccharinely sappy as that sounds.

And narratively, I think that means that after she reunites with Riol and resolves her obligations in Tural, that's the end. She's done what she set out to do and, critically, she has begun to live her life as a person rather than as a tool or weapon.

Kara's story is about searching for an coming to terms with who and what she is, learning that she is allowed to live on her own terms and for her own happiness, and figuring out for herself what that ultimately means for her.

Kara's story is about a very confused and scared woman finding her way and place in a world and society that she fundamentally does not, and in some ways cannot, understand.

—because Kara's story, while it certainly *featured* these sorts of adventures, is ultimately not a story about being a hero who saves the world from increasingly escalating magnitudes of existential threat.

Maybe that means that, in Kara's world and timeline, there *is no* Alexandrian narrative. Maybe Zoraal Ja gets cooked and never accesses the Golden City. Or maybe that all does happen after all. But from the standpoint of Kara's character narrative, it isn't important or even relevant—

The story of Kara as a character doesn't fit in with, let alone require, the events from the appearance of the Thunderdome onwards, so if her story were a book, the book would end no later than her initial arrival in Shaaloani.

A metaphorical (and maybe literal) ride into the sunset.

Not in the "she dies" sense, but in the narrative sense, as a story that is being and can be told.

As of the conclusion of the Rite of Succession, all of Kara's story that needs to be told, *will* have been told.

This is the end of Kara's story.

I didn't watch or even read up on the Live Letter; I just incidentally saw the promo image for the new trial. And I think seeing that trial, and inferring what it means for what the devs want to focus on in the wider story, solidified something I'd already been starting to suspect.

Yes, she is Azem, and there are Azem-related hijinks going on, but I'm talking more about the story that is being told than I am the arbitrary plot literally-devices themselves. The Sippy Cup of Destiny is just a macguffin, after all, and narratively has no importance to Kara's character.
