Also in this set: That special mix from around 2010 when they put out a huge-ass "Station to Station" box. Not a fan of it, though. Everything sounds so clean that it's almost lifeless. The intensity of the original is nowhere to be found here. Shows you how important mixing in music actually is.

Literally the only band I can think of where the crowd goes WILD when it plays a schranz techno version of one of their metal songs.
...what a sentence to say! And a proof of how awesome they are. 🦎

"Station to Station" (1976) - Man, what an "All killer, no filler whatsoever" album, from the 10min hypnotic opening title track to the "Wild is the Wind" cover at the end. It all sounds so dense and layered that you cannot get enough of it. And it also might include David Bowie's best singing ever.

"Young Americans" (1975) - Replaces the mellow jams of "The Gouster" with some sick grooves like "Fascination". Works for me! "Fame", though, is just incoherent and jumbly. I guess the radio agrees with me, because it prefers to play the title track, which has only gotten more iconic over the years.

Another box-set extra: "The Gouster", a shelved album. Basically, it's just an early version of "Young Americans", with sliiightly different takes on its songs and some soon-to-be outtakes. Nothing essential, imo, but I appreciate how it's more relaxed and mellow than the "official" album.

Most cursed TF tube.

An expanded version of the album was included too. It features the full set with the songs in correct order, and artwork that makes Bowie look less like a zombie. The mix is gentler too, so it isn't as exhausting on the ears. It's an improvement, I guess, but I still don't like it that much.

"David Live" (1974) - The jokes kinda write themselves when Bowie looks undead on the cover. Him doing soul versions of his songs sounds like a fun concept, but it's mostly just an annoying sax on top of everything. Also, it isn't recorded very well. No wonder this one has a bad reputation.

Doing the tea and bed thing on a cold afternoon with a long-forgotten box set that I dug up from my shelves. (It plays on Playstation 3!! Woooah!!)

"Diamond Dogs" (1974) - There's a bit of a Ziggy Stardust hangover going on, but it somehow *feels* like the first proper Bowie album, not least because this is where the artsy weirdness is creeping in. Also, he worked on his vocals, so his singing is more versatile now.

Moving on to box #2 now, and this one is where I started to collect the series back then. Doofus me missed out on the first one when it came out, so I was too late to get hold of the LP version, which is now one of my white whales. But anyway, it's all LPs from here on out.

"Re:Call 1" - The apocrypha of that set's era. Most tracks are radio edits and mono mixes (They were still a thing by then??), so there are a lot of "Hear it once"-type of things. But it also includes "Velvet Goldmine", Bowie's best b-side ever. It boggles the mind why that wasn't a proper single.
