It's not wrong to try new things, join new groups, meet new people, learn new skills. But in any new venture, just know: you're bringing up the caboose. You're the Eeyore of the group until you prove otherwise. And that's good! That's perfectly fine! Eeyore gets to have fun too.

So when someone's new in a group, keep the reception simple: "Appreciate you being here. Here's a seat near the back, you don't need to say anything. You aren't the guest of honor today. Probably not tomorrow, either." (6/)

And suddenly this person, who was just outside the group, thinks the ideas they're bringing to the table are better than what was already in, which is pretty damn rare. Celebrity and talent rarely cross over. Even Jordan was mid at baseball. (5/)
July 15, 2025 at 7:32 PM
But that's it. Eeyore's accepted, and invited, but he's not magically celebrated for showing up. It feels like when someone joins a group from outside of it, a lot of problems come from trying to elevate them beyond a bare minimum, or shunning them for being the outsider. (4/)

Eeyore is rarely the highlight of a story, often either providing commentary or following somebody else's plan. But he's almost always invited, and people do acknowledge him. They might not listen, but they hear him. (3/)

For those too young, Eeyore is a stuffed donkey, and a prominent member of the Hundred Acre Wood. He's mopey, depressing, depressed, pessimistic, passive, and just a wet blanket. He has the exact disposition of someone with a nail in his ass. Because he does.(2/)

I've always thought about people who make big announcements of switching groups, be it those who switch political parties, those who jump into a new hobby, or those just expanding their horizons. Treat those people like Eeyore. (1/)

I’m posting this picture to remind myself to talk about Eeyore later.

This is a second #test post for a social media manager app. I'm seeing what it does with pictures. Hopefully, the alpha background is preserved. It's an old design for a flag of a faction I'm writing about, called "The Five-Tooth Key"

This is my old one. I like my blurb.

#AprilWorldbuilders 30: How long have you been worldbuilding? Since about 1999. I didn’t consider seriously writing about it until maybe 2015 or so.

#AprilWorldbuilders 29: What is your current project? I’ve been mentally bouncing around and reorganizing things lately, but I’m trying to ultimately focus on Pantheon, a novel that ironically takes place AFTER a variety of other stories making the world what it is. (1)

#AprilWorldbuilders 28: Snippet: Night. I don’t mention the night a lot, and only maybe two scenes take place explicitly during it. The other is a character half-drunkenly riding an ostrich after a night of sex but before a fistfight in an elevator, but that fits poorly in one screenshot.

#AprilWorldbuilders 27: In-world art/literature inspired by the stars. After the destruction of the Sun, the sole occupant of the surviving Shuttle realized someone needed to thanklessly pilot the vehicle to an inhabitable planet for an unlivable amount of time. (1)
April 27, 2025 at 12:14 PM
#AprilWorldbuilders 26: Rituals and Celebrations done by night. The only two species who are active at night are Halflings and Shifters, who both regard night as a basic continuation of time. Some Halflings splice themselves to be more nocturnally productive, but they do everything “daywalkers” do.
April 26, 2025 at 10:02 AM
#AprilWorldbuilders 25: Myths and legends about the moon or stars. Halflings never visited the moon before it was destroyed, so rumors about the moon run rampant, such as being made of cheese and having a secret Nazi base on the opposite side. (1)

#AprilWorldbuilding 24: No magic is associated with celestial bodies. Magic is created by spending parts of one’s soul, an ethereal substance connecting your physical body to to your subconscious. Magic is very math and physics heavy, and is distributed similar to cell phone plans.
April 24, 2025 at 9:51 AM
#AprilWorldbuilders 23: My world is an alternate future from this world, so the constellations are 1:1, excluding the Sun which gets blown up. People do not explore even a fraction of space, and the major space-faring races, Halflings and Androids, are incredibly non-mystic. (1/2)
April 23, 2025 at 11:11 AM
#AprilWorldbuilding 22: All races don’t search for inhabitable planets, and instead use a new system of magnetization, terraforming, and straight up bombs to move and shape planets and moons into proper position for livable conditions. It takes years and a ton of math to get right.
April 22, 2025 at 9:52 AM
#AprilWorldbuilders 21: Including a snippet with “hands/feet” in it. Fun fact: Shifters are made through a voluntary mutation, not another divergent species, so a completely Human family can have a Shifter in it, which is the case in the snippet provided.
April 21, 2025 at 9:49 AM
#AprilWorldbuilders 20: Halfling interactions tend to be rapidly sexual, owing to a self-improvement culture and the side effects of some anti-corruption laws. Shifters often gauge you based on affiliations and are quick to discuss gang relations.
April 20, 2025 at 1:44 PM
#AprilWorldbuilders 19: Both Humans and Shifters enslaved Halflings at different times for different reasons, so Halflings have a distinct wariness of them (especially Humans) and have gone to great measures to prevent future attempts, such as naming the color green in public use. (1/)
April 19, 2025 at 9:55 AM
#AprilWorldbuilders 18: Because of their propensity for gene splicing, there’s a much smaller physical gap between Halfling men and women. Much of their sports are co-ed, and due to specific women founding their empire and being the top of their leagues, the Halfling world tends to be misandrist.
April 18, 2025 at 11:46 AM
#AprilWorldbuilders 17: Humans can technically do everything Halflings can, but Halflings joke that Humans can’t do it without enslaving people.Shifters can mimic any sound they hear and see parts of the light spectrum invisible to others. Androids can download memories. (1/2)
