When it's My Side Against Your Side, instead of right vs. wrong, morals are just tactical weapons.
My daughter is 15, a child with a baby face whom I won’t even put in an Uber by herself. Just utterly disgusting from the same people who have spent years demonizing trans people as predators for daring even to exist. What are we even doing right now?

Sometimes when current events are overwhelming, I'll read up on nuclear war scenarios or the Bengali genocide of 1971 because those horrors feel soothingly distant
Seeing the Nuremberg trials movie after work because sometimes it's nice to just go to the movies and completely get away from the real world.

I see a lot of people & organizations responding to the Supreme Court's refusal to take Kim Davis's challenge to marriage equality with posts of "Love Always Wins!" While that's a perfectly fine, positive take, I think in this particular case, it's correct to say "Mean Stupidity Always Loses!"
Kim Davis is so angry that the Supreme Court failed to uphold her deeply held religious belief that "marriage is sacred," she's threatening to get three MORE divorces.

Plus, he got over a million votes, the first mayoral candidate to do so since 1969. Driving turnout is just as decisive as percentage.
Beware people trying to minimize Mamdani's win by comparing his number to other democrats in other races. Those other democrats didn't run a three-way race with two democrats and a republican. Getting more than 50% in a three way race is a DECISIVE win. Folks saying otherwise are just mad

Do you think if the city council of Noble, Oklahoma, made up a peace prize and gave it to him that he'd be content with it? Maybe it would calm him a bit?

ChatGPT, Meta AI, Grok, etc.: these will never improve and will always spew out at least some wrong slop. So, cope, I guess.

In a second article this year, McWhorter doesn't know the origin of a queer slang term that The Kids now say. Here, it's "clocking"; in May, it was "giving". Dude. Get a gay friend.

I read everything Musk says about trans people as his attempts to explain to himself why his own child is trans. He'll announce the most convoluted rationalizations to avoid accepting that she was born the way she is.
It’s impossible to overstate the degree to which the MAGA Right is rooted in grievances & victimology.

I doubt Elon Musk could point to any real examples of “the relentless propaganda portraying white men as the worst human beings.”

A supposedly offending op-ed here or there doesn’t count.

Instead of worrying about how the robots of the future will destroy us, pay attention to how our current robots have changed us and the societies we live in.
An excellent, easily understood explanation
"Generative AI is a tool for false nostalgia of a past utopia that didn’t really exist, for lying that officials making things worse have accomplished admirable feats, for confusing and frustrating people with a “firehose of falsehood,” and for acclimating them to atrocities."
The Third Algorithm
ChatGPT and other generative AI isn't about to create superintelligence, but even if what we see now is it, the impact is on the scale of Google search and algorithmic social media, except maybe worse

Anti-gay attention-seeker Kim Davis's four marriages to three different men may reveal her commitment issues, but she clearly has no problem committing to affordable lightweight knit separates from Walmart SuperCenter.

Whenever the actual NYT uses "uncomfortable" like this, which they do often, it comes across as the same level of discomfort as going to a pool party with plaque psoriasis in a Skyrizi commercial
Some observers say they are uncomfortable with Trump's deployment of the national guard in DC

Fun fact, while the zombie metaphor gets used for everything from capitalism to scary foreigners, when it entered the popular lexicon, it was from the Haitian tradition of zombi, born of existential fear that someone could so enslave you that you labor forever on their behalf, even *after* death.
