It is vague but the uncertainty it creates is going to be a real, huge, and immediate issue for productions in prep right now.

I don't think the article makes clear that the English-speaking voices are humans, and (as you say above) just the mouth movements are digital. It's also being used to change dialog in shot scenes; could save on reshoot costs sometimes (or awkwardly cutting to someone's back when they say a line).

What do you mean by “35mm scan” exactly? All (35mm-shot) movies shot on film are scanned from a 35mm element. Do you mean a scan from a print? Or an IP or negative?
