The reason I ask is to indirectly get your assessment of Rodrygo since, Arsenal and Liverpool are seemingly targeting him for the LW spot.

How highly do you rate him and what do you think he offers both teams over their current first team LW?

Sorry for the long winded question 😅

Why not sell Rodrygo for around £60-70 million and partially fund Isak?

Keep a front three or Isak, Mbappe and Vinicius?

Unless you either rate Rodrygo highly or you think Vinicius sells for close to £ 100 million (Bayern maybe?) and almost completely funds Isak?

That's what I've constantly heard from knowledgeable people like yourself, selling Konate or losing him on a free could be a major issue looking at the current market.

And more to your point, even if someone is athletic and good on the ball they have other weaknesses like aerial duels (Guéhi).

Completely agree, however there is a lot of noise around us selling Diaz/Nunez/Chiesa and us signing 1 or 2 forwards Rodrygo/Isak/Fofana so I'm trying to make sense of the thinking behind that.

As an aside is there anyone in the CB market who appeals to you? Someone established or up-and-coming?
July 25, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Keeping his injury history in mind and how he needs his minutes managed, (cannot play twice a week) what price would make sense for you?

- £ 90 million?
- £ 100 million?
- £ 120 million?

I can see Isak kicking up a fuss and trying to force a move. There aren't a lot of suitors.
July 24, 2025 at 8:15 PM
But I take your point, he isn't Ornstein or Paul joyce
July 24, 2025 at 1:06 PM
Wow I could not have timed the start of this discussion better 😛😂
July 24, 2025 at 1:05 PM
Yeah I never thought we'd see a transfer window remotely like this.
July 24, 2025 at 12:50 PM
I'm in the same boat but I'm trying to make sense of the report that we aren't in for Rodrygo as the Diaz replacement and he seems like the only appropriate candidate.

The out of the box option is Ekitike as rotation at both LW and ST and we sign another 9? Maybe that's why Mateta comes in? 😛😂
July 24, 2025 at 12:49 PM
Would you keep Diaz even if he's indicated he either wants a pay rise or he wants to leave?

The LW market is pretty sparse right now, hence why Bayern are desperate.

What do you guys think of the idea that Ekitike is actually the Diaz replacement and Isak is our 9? (Way too much money right?)
July 24, 2025 at 12:39 PM
With James Pearce indicating that Rodrygo is not on our list to replace Diaz if we do sell him, who do you guys think are suitable targets? Someone who can play LW and 9 but there aren't many around that fit the age and playing profile we need. Maybe we actually go in for Gordon again? (HG factor)

Clearly Darwin wants to move on so it probably suits all parties to do so.

I'm more concerned with the lack of movement in terms of CB's and/or progress on the contract situation with Konate.
July 23, 2025 at 12:47 PM
That makes a lot of sense in terms of how to use Wirtz.

As an aside do you think there is any chance we keep both Darwin and Chiesa? Wirtz could help Darwin play to his strengths with more balls in behind. Although that doesn't solve Darwin's unsuitability in dropping deep and linking play.
July 23, 2025 at 12:28 PM
But surely in that scenario Wirtz would be considered as part of the attackers? He can play as the 9 or at LW.

But also:

Rodrygo in for Diaz + £5-10 Million

Ekitike in for Darwin + 10 - 20 Million

A versatile attacker in for Chiesa and Elliot (I assume they sell for at least £50 million)
July 23, 2025 at 3:33 AM
Sorry, that was probably a poorly worded question.

I'm curious about the dynamic between Wirtz and Ekitike since both like to drop & get on the ball. Do you see them combining deeper in the middle third and be more involved in build up while Salah and the LW stay higher up?
July 21, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Hey Alex, based on the business done by Liverpool done so far is it as straightforward as Wirtz 10, Ekitike 9 and Dom becomes a rotation option for both the double pivot and the 10 role? Or do you think there is a more effective way of utilizing the squad?
July 20, 2025 at 9:25 PM
Yeah I agree with the Pedro point, but with the system that slot played (last year at least) it seems like the focus is more on being involved in build up and combination play rather than getting shots/goals so maybe Pedro was a more cost effective option.

Though with Ekitike we get both.
July 20, 2025 at 3:06 PM
Maybe we tried and weren't able to make the deals happen.

But if we get Rodrygo Vs Gordon (higher transfer fee and higher wage) plus non home grown it seems like Rodrygo was just higher on the list.

Same with João Pedro Vs Ekitike.
July 20, 2025 at 3:01 PM
Are you surprised based on the pretty big overhaul of our attack that we did not have more players from the premier league aka prem proven as priority targets? Joao Pedro? Madueke? Gordon? We were seemingly in for all of them but they did not seem like our no 1 targets.
July 20, 2025 at 2:57 PM
Okay so the opposite of what you're saying should happen hmmmm.

So we're also buying Isak, playing a 4-4-2 (Grav and Wirtz in the middle) and scoring like 100 + goals 😛 😂
July 20, 2025 at 1:03 AM
And this is why I wanted to hear your perspective 😁 that's for making it make sense.

You're probably right with the number of games we'll have to play There'll be enough minutes to go around.
July 20, 2025 at 12:42 AM
Yeah but that's so many starting quality players rotating and sharing minutes for 2 positions. Seeing as the other 3 can't do what Grav does (and the only one the manager trusted to play as a single pivot) means that you'll have Dom, Macca and Curtis rotating one of the double pivot spots.
July 20, 2025 at 12:36 AM
I don't think you spend £100 million to get (one of) the best young player in the world to have him press and cover for Salah and also Frimpong.
July 20, 2025 at 12:32 AM
Oh wow this is exactly what I feel like will happen i.e lucho for Rodrygo (and Rodrygo being the back up 9/secondary 9)

My only issue is you are disrupting our midfield that was the best or among the best in Europe. Especially replacing Dom in the 11 with wirtz as he's crucial to Salah thriving.
July 20, 2025 at 12:30 AM
That's obviously not the case. With getting Ekitike and maybe even selling diaz and replacing him. Which players do you see fulfilling which roles in the squad?
