Gakpo has been a concern for me this season so far. I think moving forward we need to go Wirtz/Sobo/Salah with either Isak Or Ekitike for now. Once AFCON starts we’ll have to think about Wirtz on the other side

As far as I can tell nobody from the Newcastle camp (including cutout journalists) denies he was promised a raise. Just that he wasn’t promised he could leave.

If the reporting is at all true (and Newcastle doesn’t deny this) he asked for an extension + significant raise they promised him one after the season and then reneged. This isn’t management failing to read the room it’s management actively seeking to double cross their biggest star

And it’s not like this is a massive youth project that takes time to build (like Fergie’s was) it’s just a steaming pile of shit. We get it - once in the 80s it took 3-4 years to build a project. That has never happened in any big league this century.

When’s the last time a manager came to a new club was genuinely terrible through 45 matches and then turned it around? Like it has happened in the past - Sir Alex did it in the 80s but there’s almost 50 years of data from big clubs since then and it doesn’t work like that anymore.
