If you want* to read Frederick Douglass's speech "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?"--a clear-eyed yet profoundly hopeful inspection of the gap between U.S. ideals and U.S. reality--you can read it as it was first published at the Internet Archive.

* Yes, you do.

Montanans, but especially if you're around Havre, Rocky Boy (strong chance she's there), or Great Falls (seems everyone ends up there eventually) - my cousin's daughter is missing from Havre, and the family is very worried about her #MMIW

Prevent child heatstroke deaths. A child can die from heatstroke in minutes.

From NHTSA: A sweltering heat wave is affecting millions of Americans this week. 🔥🌡️ Protect yourself and your child in the back seat! It's NEVER safe to leave them alone in a vehicle.

This is how quickly a car heats up.

I think I’m going to start a personal off grid problems list…hopefully with ways to fix these mostly smol issues.

If anyone has tips and tricks, I’d love to hear them.

Be proud of your job. Show your face.

Wear your ICE hat when shopping for groceries, at the mechanic when you need a car repair, and at church. Swap stories about your job with other parents at PTA night & at child care pick up. Engage with your neighbors.

Scared to do it? Reconsider your choices.

lol, OMdog, almost two weeks to head back south. I’m on the road (not driving) and should be home in about 5 more hours.

Unfortunately, we tried several times to get the 100 acres of redwoods in Humboldt and just couldn’t get it done.

They have our numbers, maybe they’ll change their minds. 🥺
Ah, dang…due diligence turned up some ugly problems on the property, and the sellers rejected our compromise and pulled the property from the market…it’s been for sale on/off for 5 years.

I guess I wish them luck? 🤷‍♀️

I’ll be heading back south in a week or two.

Weather up here is GORGEOUS.

Alemany Farm yields 30,000 pounds of produce a year, feeding 700 families. It is San Francisco's largest urban farm.

It's also at risk of shuttering. City grants are drying up, & with gov. funding unreliable, the farm is turning to local donors for help.

San Francisco’s largest urban farm is at risk of shutting down
Alemany Farm, a 3.5 acre urban farm that grows tens of thousands of produce a year, might not survive San Francisco's coming budget cuts.

The only two pictures I took in Shelter Cove, CA.

If the current land deal doesn’t happen, I *might* look at buying a buildable lot in Shelter Cove. It’s definitely off the beaten path, and even getting the 35’ avion down there would be a *trip*.

I feel so guilty in the mornings here. I’m sitting in a literal ancient forest in NorCal, and the news just gets worse.

I was a bit spooked about the idea of moving up here bc it’s *a lot* more red up here than even the bizarrely red RIVCO in SoCal.
May 22, 2025 at 5:52 PM
I’m out!

Released today. Had to cab it back to the avion. ($260, lol, 😳) Because, well, the avion is up in NorCal. And there’s no hospital that could fix me within 100 miles. (That was fun.)

St Joes in Eureka & Dr Tony and his team were absolutely fantastic.

I’m home! Sore belly, but I am HOME!

Oh my dog, I think I love my surgeon.. (Yes, I am absolutely weird and get a kick out of pics when I have had medical procedures done. IT’S COOL, trust me!)

He gave me pictures! Apparently he’s only seen a few hernias/torsions that presented this way.

Oh has life gone sideways!

I’m in the hospital.

On Tuesday I started vomiting. Wednesday I still felt awful. Thursday, I hadn’t slept in 48 hours, I was still tossing cookies and I was in pain.

Called an ambulance. Got to hospital 1, they went whoopsie, we can’t fix you here, off to hospital 2.

Very soon, I’ll provide a toolkit on how you can help fight back against this in Ohio (which we must do loudly), and other states.

But first, I wanted to ensure folks knew how dangerous this all was.

I’m 24-48 hours from leaving moms house for the last time. After I turn it over to the realtor, it’s done for me.

The yard is back to a mulched desert. New carpet in the bedrooms. New paint on the walls. Everything is dusted, washed, polished, turned off. All that’s left to do is pass the keys.

Tbh, just as a normie random I’m thinking about changing my voter registration to R bc it’s starting to feel unsafe being a registered D.

Such an incredibly stupid timeline.
Anyway, at accreditation time, entire faculties should register as Republican and force the accreditors to write down that the GOP Diversity-for-us-but-not-you rule ironically requires the schools to hire more registered Democrats.

I know it’s absolutely middle school humor, but I can’t be the only one noticing the absolute *units* of surnames that have crossed the news lately.

The cardinal Pizzaballa

It feels like aol chatroom days. And those were screen names…thinking of you, Howie Feltersnatch.

On my walk today, I *think* I saw a zone tailed hawk.

Big black bird shaped like a hawk, flying like a hawk, with a yellow beak.

I couldn’t get a decent picture of it, so imma going to stake it out tomorrow and see if I can get a photo or three.
