Today is Int'l Day of the Midwife and I cannot imagine what my 2 births would have been like without midwifery care.

In January I gave birth to my second child at just 23 wks and 6 days gestation. Linus lived for 8 days and then died.

Fucking disgusting the leaders debate made Mark Carney take TWO questions (plus follow ups, so four) from dogshit grifters who were behind the article targeting HIS CHILD

All bc they're too chickenshit to stand up to these asswipes that crawled out of their mom's basements for the night

There were many concerning NS Gov decisions this week. High on the list: The decision to use a P3 for the largest ever health care infrastructure investment. $7.5 billion locked in for 30 years. What of the $1 billion P3 schools buyback? Lessons ignored. #nspoli www.thecoast.ca/news-opinion...
P3 schools debacle, lessons not learned?
Governments that don't learn from an inefficient and expensive funding model seem doomed to repeat it.

Tim Houston has time to go campaign for Doug Ford, but not to speak to survivors and advocates about the epidemic of intimate partner violence.

I guess getting his buddies elected is more important than the 6 women killed by their partners in the past 3 months?

The “special guest” at Doug Ford’s @OntarioPCParty campaign event today is Nova Scotia Premier @TimHoustonNS, who also flouted his province’s fixed-election date law to call a snap vote.

The Law Amendments Committee made Nova Scotia the most participatory democracy in Canada.

It let people speak directly to lawmakers at Province House. It also gave MLAs and the public a chance to filibuster bad legislation, as Tim Houston did in 2015 on behalf of film workers. #nspoli

One of the report recommendations that has been ignored is the need to remove other barriers preventing the legislature from being more representative. When Alexa was elected there was no bathroom for women MLAs. The first change table was added a few yrs ago. Can we do child care next?

FTR I think MLAs should get paid more (but I also think everyone should get paid more). Being independently wealthy should not be a qualification for our political representatives.

Way, way back in 2022 we had a committee with members put forward by all 3 parties take a look at MLA pay in NS. They also recommended an increase in MLA pay but not an increase in the top ups for Ministers or the Premier.
That report is here nslegislature.ca/sites/defaul...

They're gonna normalize plane crashes the way they normalize school shootings if we let them. Just the cost of lining certain pockets.

Happy Heritage Day!

For this heritage day, the province of NS is honouring Nora Bernard for her all her contributions to Mi’kma’ki. At Mayworks, Nora was part of our trading card series in 2019!

At emerg in #Halisky for a family injury (prob not serious, but needs checking). A doc just announced they’re significantly over-capacity: 140 waiting for beds + full emerg.

Our system’s overstretched & excellent HCWs overworked. Worst I’ve seen over past few years (here often for my mom then).
