This reads, to the base, as “okay you turned out last Tuesday like good little soldiers, now we can wave the white flag and get back to our business of not doing very much at all.” That sucks for the base!!

Then when the SNAP emergency funds run out/everyone is reeling from Thanksgiving, sure, step in and save Christmas travel and let the premium spikes hit. But like, create a sensible narrative for your base around what you’re trying to do!

To me, there are 2 moments to fold: if the Supreme Court/first circuit allowed the SNAP fight to drag on, because then you could position it as “Donald trumps Supreme Court hates babies and old people and so we have to save them,” I think that’s a fine message to the base

Lost in the sauce a bit here is that a Democrat primary voter is probably a bit more left leaning and engaged than a swing voter, and you put up “former Blackwater contractor” against Mills with the same group who turned out for No Kings….idk man, not sure that was ever the winning formula!!

Like he thought that was going to be the scandal! And I was like lol oh no that was part of his appeal I guess and my husband was like ??? - and my guess is that there are probably a lot of Maine primary Democrat voters who have the same extremely negative reaction to BLACKWATER as he did!

Also they put General Patton in charge of a FAKE ARMY because he slapped a soldier and it turned out to be very effective misinformation bc the Germans had so much respect for Patton that they never suspected the US basically sidelined him. And I suspect Pete here would also fall for that ruse!!

The D Day beaches are an incredible visit for many reasons but certainly they’re so worth it to understand how much careful planning went into BOTH sides frankly, and that on the Allied side there was a huge awareness of the responsibility they had to get it as right as possible for the troops
