The esp (uart_types.h) standard UART library can be set for IRDA, and integrated according to IR data transmission standards. So an ESP32 powered remote control could be developed...should be able to record whatever the TV remote is transmitting, and then use that in turn to build your own.

So what is actually in those supermarket tags? ... I've seen the lcd versions - which is less interesting - but if they are eink that's a whole different story.
