how LeGuin peeled back the curtain from *the knowledge and magic of Men* and subverted it with the knowledge and magic of Women.
how trauma can shape but not define us.
how the surface can hide great depths, and how lost things can be reclaimed.
how we define good, peace, beauty.

performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!
tell me about a book that changed you
for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

important. :) like, look, if you *have on hand* things that your local food bank has stated they need, by all means donate them.
but if you can, cash is better in every circumstance and they WILL make every dollar go further than you could.
and liquid resources can be responsive to changing needs.

There’s a flood of (well meaning!) influencers doing splashy shopping trips for pantries and I recall what an abortion provider said: orgs need money, but donors give only what they want to, not necessarily what’s needed. Hence the offers for a couch to crash on post-abortion and not $ for a hotel.
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

my dream signing for the Reign remains Yui Hasegawa. we should simply sign Yui Hasegawa with all the money coming off our books this season. I think that one signing would fix us.
3-4-3 with Huerta, McClernon, Bugg -- Dahlien, Hasegawa, Meza, Mondesir -- Fishel, Huitema, Mercado.
count it.

At one point, the right wing press printed a story that 1000+ families were part of a law suit over Tavistock referrals for puberty blockers.
The only slight problem was that at that point, there hadn't even been a thousand kids referred.
OK so maybe a bigger problem was it was all MADE UP.

Just in case you thought this was about trans athletes. This was solely about creating a fascist and racist gender bureaucracy over what constitutes being feminine enough to be considered a woman.
They're targeting cis women who may be intersex and banning them from sport.

This makes my skin crawl to read. Just so deeply embarrassing out infuriating. Print this out and mail it to your reps. Read it to them on their voicemails. They all need to feel unimaginable shame until they finally grow the collective spine to - at the very least - call for new leadership.

first rewatch impressions
Huerta and McClernon were dealing, McCammon struggled, and if Dahlien was more than 30 minutes fit we HAD to find a way to get her on sooner than we did, so much tilted our way after she checked in
really reinforcing my view that the Reign were unlucky in this one

going to start intensive notetaking for the final match valkyratings for the season tomorrow.
we'll have a couple retrospectives/followups after that, too, probably. at least one, maybe more if I can't fit everything that deserves said about this season into 3500 works or so.

Dickey should be GK, but I feel like Bloomer and Smith are snubs here.
Coffey, Howell seem like wild oversights in Midfield.
Temwa's the MVP, lol. KC with Temwa ran roughshod over the field, KC without Temwa was both beatable and beaten multiple times.

#NWSL awards season shenanigans is an annual tradition, and the Midfielder of the Year shortlist having NEITHER Taylor Flint NOR Sam Coffey is egregious, baffling stuff.

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.
Safe bike-lanes mean business.
