Seriously though do the kids understand that we had basically no electronic media on-demand growing up? Pre-internet, I grew up without even home video rentals. Recorded music was expensive, books were expensive, my town had no book shops or record stores, we had no movie theater

The popular saying is “Sleep on it,” but we rarely use incubation intentionally.

If you need to think hard about something, jot down notes about it for 5 minutes, then go to bed. In the morning you’ll have the solution. It’s magic!

Something I believe but can’t prove is people who read books are increasingly not on social media at all.

If you're going to send an authentication code to my email every time, what is the point of my password?

Writer’s block is often caused by trying to take a deductive approach to what’s better served by an inductive process.

You’re expecting to write something true. But to get to the truth you have to be willing to first risk writing something false.

Today, a hummingbird came to my lunch table and floated in front of my face several seconds, looking right at me.

It was crazy.

I wonder if it was the same one I rescued from my house a year ago.

Creations can’t be consumed until they’re crafted. Innovations can’t have impact until they’re implemented.

You might have a handful of lasting memories of awkward interactions that happened IRL. With social media you can keep shoveling them into your noggin till there's no more room.

What if the meaning of life, besides four hours deep work, is to season your skillet?

We believe we're on the cusp of AGI because it helps us avoid the inconvenient truth that LLMs show us our thinking isn't that original.

Your mind is like a body of water, which must circulate. If your mind doesn’t meditate, it stagnates.

Main Character Syndrome is a scourge on society, but viewing your life's story as that of a main character is actually quite useful.

Just distilled my first gallon of water with my new water distiller.

This is what it removed from my tap water.

I believe now more than ever that spending a lot of time meditating is a very productive activity. With technology changing so fast in the age of AI, and more and more information coming at us, it’s increasingly true that being effective is not a matter of how much of your time you spend in motion.

9 years ago I sold everything moved to where it takes 2 weeks to get something from Amazon.

I have a vivid memory of desiring, anticipating, and celebrating the arrival of every item I own.

It really bothers me how much joy I get from the consumption process.

If we're going to live to 150, we must invent the MIB flashy thingy.

Even at 45, my daily thoughts are so invaded by the recall of images, experiences, smells, sounds, and memories of those who have long passed, I scarcely live in the present.
