One lesson I've taken from this industry is to be wary of creators who are only excited about themselves and their own work. I want you to love what you make! But what other writers set your imagination on fire? Who else do you celebrate? Who do you show up for?

As originally used, "retcon" meant almost the exact opposite of what it does today, some five decades later. The key to it lies in the full phrase behind the portmanteau - "retroactive continuity". The "continuity" part is vital here as the phrase was used to ADD to existing stories.
