The government has a flagship Employment Rights Bill in parliament and has committed to make work pay. Passing this amendment would be such an important step to making sure rights are accessible to migrant domestic workers in practice. Its time to listen to domestic workers about what works for them

I have lost count of the number of times this amendment has been tabled, over more than a decade. Its a moderate amendment which if passed would reinstate basic rights for domestic workers to look for new or better employment as a domestic worker, doing much to prevent exploitation

It’s unclear why workers with ongoing employment in the sector can’t just apply to renew their visa in the UK, especially given the well evidenced issues for workers caused by migration debt labourexploitation.org/publications...

It was hard while developing this piece to see @focusonlabour.bsky.social excellent push for a Fair Work Agency firewall, resulting in amendment 273PA tabled by Baroness Hamwee in HoL Employment Rights Bill debate, then discarded under the illusion of 'protection of vulnerable migrants from harm'
