This was an enjoyable & emotional read. It’s got a Sliding Doors kind of plot, which is even mentioned in the book when the main character realizes what she is experiencing. It’s got both love & loss. 🌶️📚💙

What can I say? There’s a reason this man just won a MacArthur Genius Award, he is a very good writer. This ultimately ends up as a sequel to There, There but there’s a lot of story to get there & it’s really interesting.

Next up for our #FridayCookieChat I made fluffernutter cookie sandwiches from someone’s old blog post that I saved years ago. These got the 🦭 of approval. Basically just big peanut butter cookies, sandwiching fluff & then partially dipped in ganache. I froze some to see how they turn out. #BakeSky 🍪

This took me a long time to get through, not because it wasn’t good but because I kept running out of time on other books. I ended up renewing it twice then getting the audiobook & having the physical copy come available again from the library.

It’s hard to tell from the picture but the title is Zachary Ying & the Dragon Emperor. It’s a middle grade about a Uyghur boy from Maine who gets possessed by the 1st emperor of China.

This is one where I totally judged the book by its cover & wanted it. I take issue with an underwater archaeologist also doing treasure hunting but otherwise it was really good. Really interesting dual timeline story with lots of suspense. 📚💙

Continuing with #FridayCookieChat offerings, I made fruit cookie pizza. Years ago I found a #wilton giant cookie pan on clearance & it works great. I use the cookie recipe that came with it & my sister’s recipe for the filling since this is her usual dish to pass & I ❤️ family connection. #BakeSky

Fun sapphic historical romance full of Latinx characters. This is the second in the series.

It was not necessary to do this.

This was entertaining but I did find the FMC intense to the point of being kind of annoying. To be fair, she’s a teenager so I wouldn’t say it was wrong or anything like that.

On Wednesday, as I was finishing up the details on the Zoey Golden costume, I heard “is that one for me?” I had expected this to happen, which is why I already had a white shirt but I still had to spend Wednesday & Thursday making this.

I made it to the last day in October before I remembered that I forgot to share my September reading wrap up. They were all enjoyable & I read pretty diversely too, 3 Native American, 2 Native Hawaiian, a Panamanian, a Puerto Rican & a Palestinian. I think Moon might’ve been my favorite 📚💙

I got these silicone cauldrons last year & then forgot to use them so I made sure I did it this year. Just chocolate box cake mix & I used the sugar cookie icing from the cookbook Midwest Made because it was easy. Halloween sprinkles because it was the end of them & I wanted them used up.

Ok I know I said I don’t really appreciate poetry but this one was really good. It’s very apt for this moment. 💡📚💙 #Poetry

It’s definitely worth it if you have time during this totally not busy, completely chill, nothing to do upcoming weekend.#Sarcasm

We usually go after the time change because then we can go earlier & not run up against bedtime but it’s so late this year that we almost missed going, since it closes this weekend.

I totally forgot to post this but we went to see the #ZooLights @zoonewengland.bsky.social last week & it was amazing as usual. Funnily enough, the only animal that we saw was a wild bunny.

For our next #FridayCookieChat I made earthquake cookies from the #Soframiz cookbook by Ana Sortun & Maura Kilpatrick. They’re one of the most popular treats at #Sofra because they’re really good. I’m glad I finally tried making them at home. #BakeSky 🍪🍫

I spent Sunday making Halloween costumes. I think they turned out pretty well. Kuromi & Zoey from K-pop Demon Hunters.

It was a busy weekend, on Saturday I went to the #BostonBookFest for the first time. I went alone because we didn’t know what to expect in terms of keeping the kids busy & I felt out of sorts because I don’t know how to be by myself anymore.

This was another read for the @blackwalnutbooks.bsky.social #DecolonizeYourBookshelf challenge on @thestorygraph.com & it’s another poetry book. Still not my jam so much but it was worth a read.

A couple of years ago I read someone’s post (insta I think) about how they have a tradition on to do a #FridayCookieChat with their kids because the answer to the question of “How was school today?” Always gets a “fine” or “boring” etc.

I’m not a particular fan of poetry but I read it for the @blackwalnutbooks.bsky.social #DecolonizeYourBookshelf challenge on @thestorygraph.com & it was pretty good. Obviously an important perspective at this point in time.
