For a 10 yro, anything by Maria Parr. They're sort of a modern day Pippi Longstocking feel. The Wild Robot books are great. And The One and Only Ivan books. My son and daughter both loved all of those.

This wee fellow crashed into our back window and came to on the porch. After a few minutes, he flew back into the trees. I think this rose breasted grosbeak may have been on his way north for the summer. It's the first of his kind I've seen around here.
