Courts have been completely instrumentalised and the rule of law, dismantled; once a year polite protesting resulting in crass AI generated dunking; tens of millions will lose basic access to health; child poverty is astronomical; women die due to policy; now this. Where’s the red line?

oday in “poor journalistic practices aren’t just in the US”, weekly Marianne is asking convicted politician Patrick Balkany which detention facility he had preferred and would recommend for Sarkozy’s sentencing. Balkany replies that Fleury-Merogis has football screenings, a net positive for a fan

If nothing else, Macron has made the royalists relevant again, with Louis de Bourbon deciding to peer in from the outside saying that a monarch would be above and beyond petty presidential concerns and would unify the country under the notion of the common good. Ok.

The city looks like a skeleton crumbling onto itself. Talks of rebuilding Gaza, while necessary, fail to take into account that billions and billions are spend in rebuilding everytime Israel decides to level the Strip. They destroy, we rebuild. Ad nauseam. Normalised.

Sometimes I wonder if those people are even real. Then extremely real people are being snatched from the streets and I remember. But moments like those test our limits.

When Trump tweets “blessed are the peacemakers”, let’s remember what is happening back home. This photo by @ashleerezin.bsky.social for the Chicago Sun-Times shows a pastor being hit in the head by a pepper spray bullet during a regular protest outside an ICE facility.

Trump’s speech to military leaders yesterday. “If you don’t like what I’m saying, there goes your rank, there goes your future.”

A head of state addressing the UNGA , after a genocidal other announced his crime to a room of delegates, dares call out said genocide, demands an immediate peacekeeping operation and enjoins US troops to disobey Trump’s orders. The US retaliates by revoking his visa. Again: a head of state

Update: the man has been suspended while an investigation is being conducted. A drop in an ocean, however.

In Gainesville, TX, a little girl named Jocelynn was taunted and her bullied by her classmates. They insisted she had to be called “an illegal”. They claimed ICE would be coming for her and that she deserved it. That she and her family had to leave the country. She took her own life. She was 11.

Yesterday, newspapers worldwide participated in a blackout in the name of hundreds of their colleagues in Gaza, killed for doing their job. More editorial boards should have participated. This one is from Lebanese newspaper L’Orient Le Jour

I know it gets worse every year. I know the Eleventh Night bonfires are always reflective of how far the far right needle oscillates. This time, it’s simply shock, shock that those in my country, the place I call home, are capable of such sickening hatred. But should I even be shocked?

And Newsom also used the right words: “LA did not have any unmet need”, meaning there is no requirement of involvement.

Remember. We’ve been there before.

I also fully agree with @adhaque.bsky.social that such attacks on the ICC constitute an attack on the ASP itself. Here is their response, published earlier today.
