Lincoln created the National Academy of Sciences to advise the government & signed the Morrill land grant act -arguably one of the greatest pieces of USA legislation. It created a higher education system everyone could access & subsequently an educated population to drive the US economy.

I'm obsessed with the show and I'm reading the books. Clearly you need pumps to keep the ground water at bay and that is clear from the show. I'm thinking about this organizationally and I think the silo idea is probably the best way to create a living and working space for that many people.
