And watching our hero Baku come to terms with that revelation--that the Nightmare doesn't have to be something that the Dreamer desires, but can be their fears, their doubts, their frustrations--feels like a very apt lesson to teach an audience: that your thoughts aren't always your wants.

I'm still thinking a lot about Cases 8&9, because Sannoh's Nightmare is a perfect encapsulation of how our subconscious actually manifests to undermine our reality--how even when we want the best for ourselves, our capacity to internally catastrophise makes our worst fears real, and ruins our hope.
