🧵 /1 Hi @tessakhan.bsky.social - You and Uplift have succeeded here - you deserve huge credit 🙏🙏

However, there is a dark side to this new North Sea plan in which the fossil fuel industry &lobbyists win - lock-in to gas based carbon capture

🧵 Thread continues here: bsky.app/profile/dran...
Huge news from the UK today: after UN climate talks in which there was a massive fight over language on fossil fuels, the UK government today announced that it will in fact be keeping many millions of barrels of oil & gas in the ground. Deeds rather than just words for a change! 🧵

It's astounding how much CO₂ we put into the atmosphere each year by burning fossil fuels.

For comparison, we all agree that plastic pollution is bad, but the mass of ALL THE PLASTIC humanity has ever produced is only 25% of the CO₂ we emitted into the atmosphere in 2025.
1) Fossil fuel
Still no peak. Emissions are projected to increase by 1.1% in 2025, reaching 38.1 GtCO2. An all time high.

🇳🇱The Netherlands is heading to the polls next week -- again

Since moving to Berlin five years ago I have voted in three Dutch national elections

⬇️ I wrote about how snap elections are hurting climate and energy policy continuation - not just in NL but also in France, Germany and Portugal
Dutch elections underscore risk to EU climate ambition amid political instability

NL voters head to polls on 29 Oct; frequent snap elections have made it harder to maintain consistent #climate and #energy policies

Should the Govm't have communicated the risk of long covid in children to parents in 2021? : BJ "Certainly, if we had advice about the risk of long covid in children then we should". So why didn't you?
Boris Johnson trying to rewrite history suggesting that he didn't have advice of long covid in children, when he had - disgraceful

➡️ Currently 110,000 children in the UK have long covid (and 1.9 million adults)

➡️The NHS has set up over 100 specialized Long COVID services costing £314 million

Very important report on the vulnerabilities of our public bodies against political interference.
🧵🚨

The UK’s independent scientific bodies are highly vulnerable to politicisation - over the past 5 months I've been working with @martinmckee.bsky.social to map out their vulnerabilities and it's not good news.

Today our report is published!
