Ever since I learned this, I have made a point to preorder books from authors and artists I follow from my local bookstore. Often, they'll order an extra copy or two to stock on the shelves. It's crazy how low the number is to make a tangible difference!
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

One of my favorite parts of yallfest is that I had a lovely conversation on a panel about the Aphantasia Apple thing, and I realized that I don’t see the apple that clearly. This also means I never struggle with drawing “what’s in my head” because I don’t have a picture in my head when I draw.
