I think it's one of the most fatal mistakes you can make: assuming that a small child will in any way pay attention to the needs of their body and act accordingly, instead of turning into a feral monster that must be wrestled into performing the most basic acts of keeping a healthy body.

That is absurdly adorable.

Happy birthday from Lupin and a heron in northern Michigan!

I'm not sure why I ever doubted my neurodivergent science-loving kid would have as great a time as we did. Definitely worth the trek to Doylestown!

the same breakfast.

I don't think it's very hard to see where the autism in my family comes from.

My grandfather (born 1910) wore a suit every day of the week and worked until he was 80 bc he couldn't imagine following a different schedule. He also ate shredded wheat and bananas every morning and when he stayed in a hotel that didn't have it, he bought them a box so he could still have /1

Those days are just so awesome. My oldest is finishing her second week of a college class and it took so much work to get her here. I hope The Wins keep coming.

16, every time we pass a roadwork sign: "Road work ahead? I sure hope so!"
So very neurodivergent.

13 doesn't have a particular favorite joke, but is a big fan of irony and witty dialogue. Also neurodivergent.

Well, here's the shore of Lake Michigan. I think it's pretty nice. 😄 Living on the East Coast now, I find most people who haven't seen the Great Lakes aren't aware of the scope of them.

There's also driving through the UP and taking the Mackinac Bridge south, which is a gorgeous drive.

Speaking as someone who has made the drive from Michigan to both Illinois and Indiana many, many times, it is well worth taking the ferry and driving through Michigan. Illinois driving is either insanity around Chicago, or corn fields, with soy for some visual interest.

That's so awesome! My severely dyslexic kid graduated this year at a 12th grade reading level, so I know the struggle and the triumph.

I met my best friend in high school because I was reading a copy of Q-in-Law. Such a great book to bond over. He kept me reading ST novels long after I stopped watching the franchise

My father-in-law just sent me a picture of the bear that tore down his bird feeder and snarfed up all the birdseed. The one night he forgot to take the bird feeder inside...

I don't understand it either, but multiple times my oldest has told me I forgot to give her her morning meds. And no, I did, but somehow she opened her eyes, spoke to me, took pills and swallowed and _never woke up_ in the process.
