Lyall is terrific. I discovered him this year; can’t figure out why I’d never heard of him. Seven early thrillers and four Harry Maxim novels, all highly recommended by me.

Towards the finish line, mate.

Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains.

Are you still aware?
Guess that you don't care about it now.

And to finish on a last negative point, check out this laughable ineptitude at Rugby Australia media. One header says incorrectly that Argentina won; the other says that the Wallabies won in ‘extra time’ (which doesn’t exist in rugby). #ausvarg #wallabies #marketingpigeon

You start the day as an answer in the NY Times crossword and end it in the obits. #armani

Ever noticed the resemblance?

I’m trying to figure out how @theguardian.com managed to place an umlaut over the lower case n and make it appear properly in all the browsers I use. What a marvellous achievement. #spinaltap #Spin̈alTap #typography

Here’s a common howler. The word is uncharted (unmapped, unexplored, unknown), not unchartered. @australia.theguardian.com

Servin’ ‘em up: 1 seasoned chicken, red onion, baby capsicums, fresh pineapple, avocado, garlic, chives (tomato base); 2 hot pepperoni, hickory-smoked bacon, beef sausage, mushrooms (barbecue-tomato-maple syrup base). Cheese is mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan blend. #pizza

Ow. I would resign from the internet if I’d shot myself in the dick like this.

$152.43 to post a CD from the U.S. to Australia. That’s a trade deterrent.

I was at the ACT Brumbies vs British & Irish Lions match in Canberra last night. Brums had a good crack. They will fall short in big matches until their kickers can get more distance (restarts, 22 exits, penalties). Lions impressive but not looking great yet. #actbrumbies #lionsrugby #lions2025

‘Pose for stock photography,’ they said. ‘What could possibly go wrong?’

There’s a second-hand copy of the UK edition in a bookshop here in Sydney. I left it face-out to maybe catch someone’s eye.

And another kookaburra shot. It occurred to me later that ‘Reduce Speed’ and ‘No Stopping’ add up to good advice.

Harsh review. I hope the author will bounce back.

I’m not here to pour cold water on anyone’s daydreams and I’ve been on my own analogue trip for a while. However, if asked, I would caution against a typewriter fetish. You don’t create on a typewriter. You draft in longhand on paper, then edit and rewrite by hand; typing is the last (boring) step.

Anyone want a slice? Pepperoni, beef sausage, hickory-smoked bacon, red capsicum, mushrooms. Tomato sauce and cheese, of course. Cooked at 400°C in my $139 (clearance price) fan-forced pizza oven. If you’re not cooking #pizza at home, you gotta try it. #homemade #yum
